Our pundits should have been pigging out on giant size portions of humble pie for years. Raheem is exactly the kind of example and role model that everyone has been demanding from the game ever since the birth of the PL. For all his life he has had the support and love of his mother and and he is a member of a very loving family. As his career has progressed he has shown his dedication to his family in ways which the press has chosen to present as the actions of a footballer who lacks professional commitment and dedication. Yet his attitude allied to considerable natural talent and a determination to learn and improve are just what has made him one of the best and most exciting players in Europe. He has improved in every season since he arrived at City but this improvement has been accompanied by negative comments in the media which betray a total lack of sincerity and fairmindedness. Much of the criticism has unpleasantly racist overtones as in the dreadful scenes at Stamford Bridge. Raheem NEVER accepts this abuse and always speaks out against it but does so with a quiet dignity which is quite inspiring. He is a strong and intelligent character with very sound moral values and it is these which make his critics look like the intellectual and moral Liliputians they are. Last night simply forced the whole country (with two exceptions!) to see just how invaluable he is.

Hoddle was absolutely dreadful last night. Whoever gave him the job as co commentator should be locked in a room for 24 hours and forced to listen to the absolute shit he spouts. All delivered in a dull monotone voice that would send a glass eye to sleep.
He was a disgrace.

Anytime Sterling did something exceptional he was either silent or somehow found *something* to criticise him for. He only opened his mouth to praise Kane or Sancho, and slate Raheem. And presumably breath.

It must all be a matter of perspective because I thought that was quite a good piece.

Loved the crack about Walcott though:

Theo Walcott, the youngest man to score an England hat-trick, has played 464 games, or rather the same game 464 times, a footballer who always seems to be running away from something rather than towards it.

You think it's reasonable to describe Joe Hart as "overwrought and pumped on his own importance", or "fixed as an emblem of unearned English arrogance, ambassador of generation nowhere" ?

Comment about his performances for England.."He played in the defeat to Uruguay and the defeat to Iceland, when rather than trying to make actual saves he seemed keen simply to lie down quite near the ball, studying its high-res revolutions as it trundled past."

It questions his ability as a keeper, and his character. The former is acceptable, but stupid given what he has achieved, the latter is distasteful.

Needless to say this is Barney Ronay. He crossed the rubicon in regards to Manchester City some time ago.

That is disgusting to be fair, an article about the PL should have a picture of the current PL champions on it...

...oh, wait a minute.
What is incredible about this is that these guys got up to seven years each in jail for a victimless crime which only hits very wealthy broadcasters. Tells you a lot about our justice system which routinely hands out lesser sentences than this for stabbing someone.

He sounds pretty average to me - I wouldn't have signed him.......
Waddle is a classic example of a player who never fulfilled his own potential but is now claiming to be some sort of expert. Raheem has already achieved more at the age of 24 than Waddle ever did. He managed a grand total of three titles in France in his entire 20-year career. Another moron stealing a living in the media.

Barney Ronay has a fancy turn of phrase for a cvnt. More interested in linguistic gymnastics than objective assessment.

He was and he has always been regarding saying anything positive about anything to do with us I thought his recent brush with death would have made him see the world in a different light, but no he remains the same miserable spiteful bastard he always was. Some people deserve a second chance........then there is Hoddle.
