Media persecution of Raheem Sterling

Sterling had a decent first 30 mins yesterday then lost his way a bit. Thought Rashford did well off the bench, more direct and less worried about losing the ball.

Should definitely start v Panama though - hopefully bag and then that will boost his confidence.

I am not sure what you saw that makes you think Rashford did well he made one run which went for a corner tried to meg someone that didnt work out as far I could see the one player who did make an impact was Loftus-Cheek who looked far better than either Alli or Lingard.

I wish would could play a 4 2 1 3 with Kane Rashford Sterling up top with Lotus-Cheek in front of Dier and Delph with Walker Stones Cahill Rose at the back

Yep he didn’t play well like a few others but southage is making a Rashford or Sterling which for me is wrong it should be one of Ali sterling or Lingard for Rashford and taking Sterling of for Rashford is making the situation worse regarding the stick sterling’s getting! Should took Ali of for Rashford and give sterling 10 mins with Rashford to see how it went.

I'd disagree with that to some extent. Stirling had a poor game and didn't really add much or retain the ball in the final 3rd, so think he should have been subbed.

I don't see it being a "Rashford or Stirling" battle, just a like for like replacement. Hopefully against Panama, Kane, Stirling, Alli and Rashford (Or Cheek), will play, as we shouldn't need to be as cautious, so maybe have a flat back 4.

That's fair enough,I think Stirling is a belting player, and the criticism of him, especially in his personal life, has be shocking, but I would say that for fair criticism to be denounced just because of previous bollocks about him, make it look like we are now blinkered and not looking at it clearly.

As has been said by many on here nobody is saying his performance was great or should not be criticised what many of us have a problem with is the fact that it is solely Sterling who is being criticised

See the BBC website, The Sterling Debate on Sky, Englands system does not suit Sterling Rashford must play - Telegraph, Why struggling Sterling must rediscover his City form for England - The Independent (this is a hatchet job based on the fact that he missed the Lingard offside chance)

Where is the criticism of Young Lingard Alli who were worse IMHO this is the issue that grates not that Sterling is being criticised

Opinions!
I thought Rashford (and Cheek) did well. Got defenders moving backwards and did more work in areas that can hurt the opponents.

Sterling was not great last night, but no worse than Lingard or Ali

Unfortunately, he is an easy scapegoat and when you have the gutter media combined with some of the neanderthals that support England then you know he will never be popular in this country ( outside of City fans)

You see Ali and lingard weee poor why you not sub them?

Easier to be less worried about losing the ball when you haven't got the whole country wishing you to fail.

I'd like to see that, as think this would be a really strong attacking intent.

I would mention though, that Sterling was off the pace last night and didn't play well. I know he is usually slated for no reason, but lets have it right, when he hasn't played well, he just hasn't played well and he is due some criticism, even if other don't get it, who may also should be assessed with the same comments.
He was off the pace mate and criticism is justified but he is singled out. Talk Sport's The Moose criticised him for smiling last night, and BBC's Phil McNulty basically said it's ok for Lingard to miss chances but Sterling cannot. England were off the pace last night, not just Sterling.
