Media persecution of Raheem Sterling

I personally don’t think Sterling plays very well for England.
He doesn't but he gets far more than his fair share of blame. I would not be his biggest fan but I thought he was not the worse player on the pitch last night and
the same last time against Iceland when he got the lions share of the blame.

Who does play well for England?

This is the go to thing for City fans. He was poor last night and people in a thread about Sterling are pointing that out. They leap from their chairs to roll off a list of other players who didn't play well. Not many play well for England you are right, not many have had the season Sterling has had either. People defend his dive in the last friendly, defend missed chances/open nets, complain about him being subbed and are up in arms over every tiny detail. He had a chance to shove everything down the wankers in the media throats last night, but yet again under performed. We all have eyes, we all seen it and it doesn't make us any less of City fans for realising that.

It's the go to thing because others aren't held to the same standard as Sterling, hence 'persecution', note the thread title.

Maybe they aren't held to the same standard because they haven't performed as well as Sterling this season? I think if he is poor it is justified this tournament after his improvements and season just gone, not so much in games and tournaments before hand though.

If you have eyes and seen them three were shit yesterday (which they was) what was you watching every time Sterling got the ball?

Easier to be less worried about losing the ball when you haven't got the whole country wishing you to fail.
I think that McNulty specifically namechecking Sterling in his article's headline was poor. I think he played as well as Lingard or Alli.

But he didn't have a great 2nd half, and i think it was a fair shout to bring him off for Rashford who I think (a long with Cheek) made a difference.

I think you're right about confidence. To me Sterling is much more of a confidence player than Rashford...but also has more pressure. Hence I would play him v Panama for the whole 90 (provided game goes as we expect) to get him a goal.

You know that's not true.

So because Sterling has had a great season for his club then he shold be held to a higher standard than other players. Why do you fail to grasp the point that the reason that he had a great season was that the players he plays with at club level are far superior to those he plays with at international level. He is making the same runs and getting into the same positions but isnt being found ask Lukaku if he would rather play with Lingard or KDB if you saw that pass yesterday. Stuart Brennan has written a good article today highlighting the reason why Sterling may not be as successful for England which I hope you read it will help you understand the problem he is facing

Raheem Sterling may NEVER be as good for England as he is for Man City
Manchester City star has been brilliant for club and ordinary for country but it is no great surprise
