Media persecution of Raheem Sterling

Because Sterling represents a successful, strong willed, independant, rich & talented black person, who isn't conforming.

If Rashford had left Utd & come to City, in a big transfer, he would be getting it.

He would also get it if he was white, to some extent, but if a non white person is in that position, it gives the racists a bandwaggon to jump on, where they can do their thing & get away with it.
Basically. This country loves its iconoclasm.

You'll note in football, the ones the media looks to take down a peg or two are the once in a generation superstars (superstars by any definition), not simply the good ones. It's why players like Rooney, Beckham, Gazza, and now Sterling got/get so much attention whilst all the other simply brilliant but not quite prodigal players seem to be liked (eg Kane, Rashford, Shearer, Gerrard, Lampard etc). The former players are analogous with the modern day City, the latter with the modern day Liverpool.

And as Nev says, any person with any even slight and subconscious racist tendencies is going to have an opportunity to get them out freely with Sterling, or any other black footballer for that matter.

The use of the picture is a clear negative slant on the game when, there were so many positive ones that could have been use and probably would have been for other clubs . Showing Raheem in a negative light was, imho, a careless thing to do so soon after the racist incident at Chelsea and Raheem’s Instagram post, and probably posted by one the many Rag / Liverpool fans that polute the BBC

I see Deli Alli had a bottle thrown at him didn’t he but then he deserves it, he’s brash, gangsta, broken family........

Yes he did deserve it because he’s a prick, not the colour of his skin.

Ps... I am joking before anyone boots off but he is a prick, even if it’s just for the tackle at ours last season.

His father was killed right in front of him, my respect for this guy is off the charts.

He has dragged himself and his family up from the absolute gutter.

The most famous footballer in England right now.

I think his father was actually killed in front of Sterling's grandfather, not in front of Raheem.

It is amazing though and I said this when the gun tattoo furore happened and people said he was a terrible role model - Raheem Sterling is an immigrant who grew up in a council estate known for its gangs and worked every day of his childhood to maximise his natural talent and succeeded in pulling his entire family out of poverty forever by the time he was 20.

And now, just after his 24th birthday, he's used his platform to start a nationwide debate about racism to protect younger black players and stop them going through what he had to endure.

He's as good a role model as you could want from a footballer.

Potential PFA Player of Year winner this season for me. Wouldn't surprise me if the football writers gave him the award also. Odds were 33/1 last month. Now a front runner with our Dave.

When he was training with QPR he sometimes had to get 2 or 3 busses and on way back many times his mum used to phone him to let him know which hostel or b&b they would be staying as they didn't have a permanent abode

You know they were my thoughts & then I realised they weren’t it was just what I read. I saw a documentary on him & like Sterling couldn’t have had more admiration.

Didn't he and his si
