I think Marvin does have a point. Personally I want everything - to win with beautiful football. That's why this is such a wonderful period for us.
But I remember Brazil in 1982 which had stayed with me ever since. That was a breathtaking team who would have shaped football for years but one loose pass across the back line by Cerezo, Paolo Rossi buries it and goodbye the dream.
I don't think he is saying stop what Pep is doing but just that in a one off cup game we might occasionally have to be careful. In fact we saw it last 5-10 mins at the Etihad v Napoli where we shut up shop to some degree.
We were tremendous last night but even we needed a little bit of luck in not being 2 down during that first 30 mins and also them losing the left back. These margins can be very important.
There's more to come from this team and I don't want it to ever end
Agree with the jist of your post but you're falling into the trap that many did in that period of thinking Brazil were better than they actually were.
Italy were superb that day and could easily have put 5 past Brazil.

I agree with this, but in terms of shutting up shop, it is not interpreted the same way with Pep. Shutting up shop as it is known here at home, means ball retention which is what you elude to in your post with our manager. We go up, score. Towards the end of the game we keep the ball which means the opposition have to close down and press in order to score....we then pick them off by by-passing the press or counter with speed when breaking up an attack

Fair point and I agree. What I meant was the minute or two at the end by the corner flag which I guess is neither here nor there.
Anyway, got to say what a load of shite the MUEN is. A statement victory for City yet we actually get less coverage than the Rags when they've not even played. It might have been nice if our local paper had tried to place this victory within the gallery of other great European seats - Milan away, Gornik, Bayern etc, they could have analysed tactically how the game was won, they could have wheeled out a couple of our past greats for their views etc but basically the coverage was pretty poor

Bought a copy of the MEN tonight to read about Aguero's history making.
There was a photo of said legend on the back page then a double page spread about last night.
Further inside was six pages, yes six, about the twunts who reside outside the city boundary

Unfortunately it will take a while for their glory hunting band wagon jumpers to disappear. All we need to do is concentrate on ourselves and cheer pep and the team onto glory

Our future is on the right path.....the swamp dwellers dont have one, and that is the icing on the cake

Well yes I know but we are representing the city of Manchester. This is our local newspaper and they give us shit coverage. I think it was raghead Keane who said at Sunderland that when the team wins the town dine out on it for a week but you wouldn't guess that from our coverage. In fact I think it's wider than that because it's not just linked to success is it? When we were going and often losing at Lincoln or Wycombe or wherever we were still representing the City of Manchester- we're not just another team 50 miles away we are Manchester City. Of course the paper wants the rag clicks but that shouldn't mean down grading City. In fact the Council are just as guilty as the paper. My wife and I went for a day out in Liverpool probably about 6 months ago and came in past Goodson Park and all around the roads and on street lights were Everton flags. It made you feel you're. It just in Liverpool (pardon the pun!!) but you're in Everton territory and all their history. In fact you get a feel of that through the city where they seem really proud of the 2 clubs and I saw (no interest to my wife of course) several merchandise stalls and at least one merchandise shop and one of the hotels had huge Everton and Liverpool flags hanging from them. The Liverpool Echo is very parochial as I'm sure are the local radio. Here in Manchester it just seems crap and we are the poor relations playing unbelievable football.
