Take it you didn't get the staff writing back to you slating City and detailing every penny spent which I did after telling them the same thing. No matter how good Samuels is, and I think he is one of the best, is not enough to tempt me to subscribe again to the tomes.
If his articles appear on the same days regularly, I shall buy the paper on those days. MS is easily the best football writer we have imo. Gets to the heart of the matter. Took Liverpool apart on their ludicrous plea of poverty.
 
Agreed..

I did all right academically but when I see stuff like some of the amounts people can get paid to write about the game they love, well now it makes one think about the choices that were on offer back then..

And as for 'careers advice', back in the late-60s the school adviser never said anything about how you might get a job involving sports journalism or one like, say, Stanley Tucci swanning around Italy tasting the food for the tv cameras..

Competition for sports journalism at a high well paid level on a national daily is tough. A friend of mine became editor of a well known football mag. Pay wasn‘t great.
