As a simple birthday pressie a few days ago, it’s an interesting short read, but it did highlight a few stats that have led to changes in how the game is played.

Eg
No one puts 1 or 2 men on the posts at corners anymore, due to stats showing its %age usefulness was negligible and Infact gave the opposition more chance of scoring.

Also that directly kicked corners into the box are also pretty %age useless, compared to short corners/hit to outside box.

A good pressie to give to a football fan.

Note: ‘sportswashing’ gets a mention, and we are linked via the use of ‘state-owned clubs’ and UAE, but not directly via use of ‘Manchester city’ - which was the only lying downer of the book

In the Premier League this season:
Haaland 32 goals from 22.8 xG
Sterling 4 goals from 6.14 xG

Haaland is outperforming his xG whereas Sterling isn't. Clearly shows us Haaland is a better finisher than Sterling

Also a penalty being counted as a full point doesn't make sense as that implies all penalties are scored

You don’t need to create something called XG to work that out.
