Media thread 2022/23

We, as fans, take the hit from all the media sh1te. If you look at it from the City business point of view; they don’t do confrontation, it only leads to more bad headlines and nothing changes, in fact it only makes it worse. So maybe they have it right. Ask yourself, from a business point of view, has all the bad press effected our winning of trophies? Has it effected our income in any way be it fans in stadiums, selling merchandise, lack of sponsorship etc? No it hasn’t. We are the fastest growing club in the world and non of this sh1te is effecting the bottom line.

’Taking on’ the media as some on here advocate would be a total waste of time. I have said for years that the best way to tackle them is ignore. The media hate a vacuum. Don’t react to the numpties and most of all don’t buy a paper either hard or soft copy. I haven’t bought a paper in 30 years, do the same, bin Sky or just watch with the City commentary like I do. I can’t believe, after all that is said on here, why people still listen to TalkSh1te, bin it for Christs sake - they want you to react that is what makes them money. I have actually learnt not to hear or react to snide remarks made in public - it makes the speaker feel like a cûnt, they only do it to get a reaction. True friends will not give you grief.
The ‘clear & Organised’ long term coordinated attack of lies, racism and bias has materially affected the perception of others, damaging the reputation of our club.

Seeing a lot of City shirts about here now on children.

I’ve actually had United and Liverpool fans complain about this to me calling them glory hunters.

Yes that’s Irish Man Utd and L’pool fans who grew up in the 80s and 90s criticising young kids now for supporting city
Don't want to derail the thread but they have been giving me a lot of "how long have you been supporting City?"

"Since 1976. What year were you born?" Usually shuts them up.

They're always too stupid/ ill-informed to realise that I only latched on in '76 because of Denis Tueart's goal. "That's the team for me," I said to my eight year old self. "They're going to win the lot."

I was right too.

... Eventually.

Someone with a better grasp of technology may have to help out on this one as I don't want to give him the clicks.

Howson's 'reaction' to this seasons trophy haul is to pretend to be a news reporter and read in the full the statement of the PL provided in relation to the fabled 115 charges.

However the last 15 seconds of said 6 min flip were actually quite funny for him as he apologised to Celtic football club for ever 'besmirged(sp?)' their reputation with ours.............

Losing to Barcodes in 55 cup final was the moment for me: I love an underdog. Now they have gone and spoilt all that. Bastards.

Very, very nearly the last knockings of mediah articles on City. 4 post-match days is 1 more day longer than I expected to be honest.
But if it was the other Mcr bunch We'd just be in week 1 of 6!
Just complaints on Jack showing a bad example today really.
Lots and lots of bitter prices in that time mind.

Correction. The media cunts are still writing and talking about the United treble winning team 24 years later. Imagine what the media would have been like if Inter or United, themselves, had stopped City winning the treble, an absolute nightmare. Unfortunately for United, they or Inter did’t.

Social Media is the biggest influencer around. The Governments around the world have been using this as a means to spread their shite for years hence we are in these precarious positions with shit people in charge. There are alot of people in this world who are not knowledgeable enough to go and research the facts so would just hang onto what is being said by the influencers on social media.

The main culprits who are spreading shit about us wants us to interact with them to ensure their posts are being seen all over. I'm also a culprit especially on Twatter. When you actually look at their total followers and compare to the likes or retweets they get for their shite articles. The message isn't getting too far. Most interactions come from us City fans.

Its hard but I'm just trying to ignore them. Fuck them all, we're now Champions of Europe so they can fuck that other chant off too - Treble winners - £300m in the pot for the season and no end of new City fans around the world. stick a 115 banner in their stadiums and we'll soon tear that fucker down too

Have a feeling a complete 180 will happen soon regarding Qatar human rights issues. Qatar in fact will be the biggest democracy, a good arabic country, an example in the Middle East.

Can you imagine the journos called City fans rats and all will go and do the same to rag fans? More like it would be long articles what western democracies can learn from Qatar and stuff.
How many people on here and elsewhere know that AbuDhabi spends a lot of time, effort and money promoting Sufism throughout the Muslim world?
Sufism may be described as Muslim mysticism but its key stance from a political point of view is that peaceful Islam, with respect for other cultures, is the right way. Sufists are opposed to political Islam and its violence and have often been attacked by fanatics as a result.
All bad these muslims, eh?

Unlike Qatar where all the journalists enjoyed a jolly up to cover the bent FIFA World Cup, Marc Bennett was in the wrong end of that regime.

This post is just a little aside as much as anything else but just about noteworthy all the same.

Denis Irwin was interviewed on RTE 6 o Clock News this evening. Man Utd are playing a friendly in Dublin and he was wheeled out for some promo pics etc. (the United shirt he wore had no main sponsor on it by the way).

The entire piece - a story about Manchester United coming to Dublin to play some other crowd, remember - was announced as "Coming up after the break Denis Irwin gives his verdict on Manchester City winning the treble".

To be fair to Irwin, he was respectful, if maybe a bit resigned about City ("they're up there now for the rest to aim at and take them down").

Now, I remember in 2012, City in the Community brought the FA Cup over to Ireland and all the media wanted to talk to Patrick Vieira about was Roy Keane this and Man Utd that...

Now, it's gone full circle. United were trying to promote themselves but being cornered into answering questions about Manchester City. City's was the name being used for audience retention o that evening's news

As I say, just a passing observation on my part - and only a small moment in the grand scheme of things but I thought it was worth sharing.
I've just listened to an OTB podcast that was outraged over a British media company cheerleading for an English club in the cl final. I'm not sure what exactly gives an Irish media outlet the right to criticise bt because they didn't spend all night banging on about alleged offences because I'm pretty sure it's not what most people tuned in for. I can imagine the hypocritical outrage if anyone in the British media made those sort of comments over anything to do with Irish football.

Cancelled mine some time ago.

Probably already been posted but … a Google search of ‘Man City’ or ‘Manchester City’ greets you with a fireworks display. It pleased me, anyway
I couldn’t bring myself to search that other lot, but in my head you’ll be greeted with vats of boiling piss ;-)

Losing to Barcodes in 55 cup final was the moment for me: I love an underdog. Now they have gone and spoilt all that. Bastards.
It is never mentioned but we only had 10 men for a lot of the match after Jimmie Meadows broke his leg. Similarly to that other chap from Blackburn that never gets mentioned, his name slips my memory.

These media twats have thrown the rags a straw to clutch at with the FA allegations. By repeatedly prefacing every article about City with reference to these spurious charges they have become 'the truth' in the warped rag view of football where they are the biggest club in the world and always will be because they loved as the biggest club in the world.

Did his cruciate in, studs caught in turf. In those days that was end of career.

"It's Silva darting into the box. his cross deflected. Was there an arm there? The ball is loose in the box. Rodri from downtown. Oh my God a sweet side foot pass from the Iberian around a static Milan defence into the bottom corner. The City fans to my right politely clap and also boo. Could tonight finally be the night? Is City's success in this competition finally written in the stars?"

"I'll tell you what wasn't written Fletch. Appendix 8 in Mancini's contract. I wonder if 12 year old Rodri knew that in 13 years his goal in a champions league final would mean nothing? You've got to feel for the lad"

"And it's the number 47 coming on for the injured number 17 De Bruyne. What does this mean for City?"

"Well Fletch we can talk squad numbers all day but the number on the lips of every City fan is 115"

From memory it was right next to the corner flag. I think that that part of the pitch was rolled back for Speed way and Greyhounds it might not have been anchored properly. Of course with the passage of time my memory might be off, I used to think that Bobbie Johnstone's diving header equaliser took place just shy of the centre circle.

Fair play to the guy. He always comes across in his videos as pretty decent bloke, who doesn't mind giving his club some serious grief. Compare him to Ty on AFTV!

I gave this a 'like' due to his face-up-and-stop-whingeing attitude, but we have to point out that he is bang wrong in saying, twice, that the dippers don't spend anything! Ok, their owners are far less forward-thinking than ours regarding reinvestment of earnings, but they still spend plenty Lee...
