Mehdi Benatia

Honestly can't see us being able to do an "acceptable" deal with Roma. They will seek to exploit our wealth to the extent that they will jack up the fee to unacceptable levels. Txiki is smart and if we have circa £35 / 40m to spend on a centre back he will get the best available for the money. I think Benatia is good but I doubt we can get him for £35m.

I think most would agree with that, and thank god were back on the THREAD SUBJECT

Unless he himself pushes for a move, which it's looking like it was BS by media

If Roma said give us 10m and Edin would you do it ?

Not a chance. After Sergio, Edin is our best striker.

If anything I would much rather sell Negrado than Dzeko. Whilst I think both are fantastic players, so far Negrado has shown that he is the type of player who looks fantastic when things are going well but piss poor when the chips are down. In the latter stages of the season Edin performed and arguably done more than any other player to win us the league.

In today's market and by his importance to us as a team Edin is worth at least £30 million. He is a guaranteed 20+ goal a season striker and could easily touch the 30 mark if he was the main guy. Also he is approaching his peak years and is a much better player than when we signed him. Whether teams would pay that asking price remains to be seen but when you see players like Soldado go for not much less then Edin would be value for money.

And under no circumstances should he be used as a makeweight in any deal. He is far too good for that.
Load of bollocks mate. Edin did well I agree but better than Negredo? no way. At least spell his name correctly!

I agree with him, Edin is better and i wouldn't let either go to get this defender.

Edin scored some vital goals but to say his goals won us the title is hugely ill-informed. That would mean ignoring all the vital goals Aguero, Negredo and Yaya scored earlier in the season, never mind the defensive displays in the run in.

On topic I really like Benatia, I guess?

If he joins it worries me that he'll be at the African nations for what may be our hardest month of the season

I hadn't even thought about that. A real negative when signing African players. Unless they are a Yaya type game changing player we should avoid them.

Good point and all things considered such as Roma's attitude etc, we should look elsewhere

anything happened here yet?

.....significantly Roma have a agreed a cut-price £3m deal for another centre-back – Lille’s Marko Basa, 31

Nothing yet mate.....all gone silent....I'm hoping we are just waiting for Roma's to close deal with Basa, then we might hear something on Benatia....

we were 6/4 to sign Fabregas and Chelsea were 4th favourites at 6/1, at one stage.
Just before we were supposed to be signing him.
