Still no major news on this? Cb is the most important signing we need this summer! Still think we want mangala though

Roma will bide time and auction to the highest bidder. Us, Chelsea, Bayern, Barca, Real and even United will all go for a player as good as Benatia. I am particularly worried about Barca.
If Chelsea wanted him they would have him by now. They don't fanny about with targets.

Doubt that as Benatia doesn't have release clause. Its easy to trigger release clauses (Diego Costa & Filipe Luis). Fabregas didn't have release clause but Barca wanted get rid of him quickly.

Makes no odds to Roma. They have replacement lined up and they will wait till world cup is finished before selling more than likely. As said, a fair few top clubs in for him, Roma will want (rightly) top dollar for him and I hope we are the ones to pay that. This guy is mustard.

No we shouldn't!

He's one of the best young centre halves in the world and will go on to captain France. I've seen enough of him to know him and Vinny would have made an unbelievably strong partnership.
Hahaha he's shit and he will captain shit

Really, first choice centre back for France and he's shit? If you say so mate. If you don't rate him IMO your either being wilfully biased because he plays for Liverpool or you simply don't know what constitutes a very good player and what doesn't.

Hold on a second...! How many goals did Liverpool concede last season?! What was he playing at when they were conceding those three goals at CRYSTANBULL? Why was he defending so deep?

Why doesn't he have the requisite technique for controlling, passing and manipulating the ball?

Why is he constantly out of position and relies on his physical attributes to cover his poor anticipation/ reading skills?

He's nowhere near the level we require and would be our 4th best option if he joined.

Should the title of this thread be changed to "Our urgent need for a CB" or have a missed that Benatia and Sakho are , in fact, the same person?

AS Roma are seeking €40 million for defender Mehdi Benatia.

The Morocco international is on the radars of Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea.

Gazzetta dello Sport says Roma are willing to sell this summer, knowing Benatia is eager to move on.

And the Giallorossi are seeking €40 million for the centre-half, who only moved to Roma last summer from Udinese.

roma are after eder belanta from river plate to replace benatia looks a decent player as well.we should scout south america for the bargains instead of looking for the finished article all the time.

I think we would if we could, getting work permits is the issue though.

Zuculini only signed for City because he has an Italian passport I think.

One of the reasons we are looking to be supposedly buying a Portuguese club to enable us to bypass the work permit rulings, we can sign the players, let them play for a few years and if they are good enough they can come to us, if not let's see if we can make a profit.

Manchester City agree deal for Mehdi Benatia - but only if Roma find a replacement

The Tunisian defender is a top target for Manuel Pellegrini but Roma will only let him depart if they can replace him for their Champions League campaign

Manchester City have agreed a deal to sign Roma centre-back Mehdi Benatia, but are sweating on the Serie A giants' ability to sign a replacement.

Manuel Pellegrini is exceptionally keen on the Tunisian defender after an impressive season at the Olimpico and is willing to unload £30million to secure his signing this summer.

But having qualified for the Champions League, Roma are in no rush to sell and will only let the wantaway Benatia depart if they can sign players good enough for a title challenge and to compete in Europe's top club competition.

One target for Rudi Garcia's men is River Plate centre-back Eder Alvarez Balanta, currently at the World Cup with Colombia.

The 21-year-old is rated is one of the best young defenders on the planet and has been watched by Barcelona, Juventus, Real Madrid and even City themselves.

If Roma refuse to let Benatia go then City will return for Porto defender Eliaquim Mangala, with whom an outline of personal terms was agreed back in January.

Think this story is to push mangala into a corner

Usual transfer guff. Make a statement, give yourself an exit option to cover both eventualities, don't include any quotes and make up a price.

I agree but like sam said last night it may be because of the work permit problems .

shit never thought about that! :-( I do hope we get benatia over mangala though, him and vinny would be an unbeatable partnership!

We can afford the finished article in Benatia. At our level it's better for someone to hit the ground running.

If anyone of you guys know Il Tempo, a newspaper in Italy, is it reliable? They say that Benatia doesn't want to be part of the pre-season training in the USA with Roma and will not go because he has an agreement with City.
