Does it have to be my money? I'm thinking what's best for the club? The 30m £ we might offer for Benatia is 30m £ definately lost, as Benatia won't have any or very little value if we decide to sell him, whereas 35m £ for Mangala who later could be sold for less/same amount.

Its not always about re-sale value though is it? If benatia helps us win the champions league, premier league for the next4-5 years, maybe fa cups etc then at the price he'll be an absolute steal! We are not a selling club and we buy the best to win the biggest comps!

I don't think we're looking for sell-on value when investing in elite level defenders. We're looking for long-term service and players with the ability to make us better.

Well he is described as very much like Kompany. Good pace, front foot tackler, decent reader of the game. Whether he can adapt that to the more demanding and fast PL is another thing, but I do think he is more "proven" than Mangala in that I think the Italian league is still better than the Portuguese one. Although Mangala has European experience going for him

If mooted fees are correct, we would sign Fernando (£12m), Sagna (£0), Benatia (£30m) and Caballero (£8m) for just about our limit before player sales (£49m). That would be extraordinarily good transfer business to strengthen our squad for so little. The Barry compensation fee should cover Zuculini.

We'll raise money, maybe not a fortune but a considerable amount, from player sales so there may be enough later in the summer for one more 'luxury' signing if required. This is, of course, assuming that Yaya and Negredo don't leave (it may happen) in which case their transfer fee goes towards a replacement.

For anyone quoting figures,i'm afraid if you want a player that the team DOES NOT want to sell,then you have to pay and pay extra.
Whether it be Luke Shaw,Lallana,Benatia ,Mangala etc etc.That's the way it is and every signing is a gamble !
