Id like to see nastasic stay but if we let him go we have to keep rekik for next season because if vinnie gets injured again we would only have mdm.The only problem is benatia is 27 and mangala is 23 and roughly both same price

To be fair that's not entirely true despite a lot of fans dislike for the paper

It is still a local rag and does get fed information from time to time

Am I right or wrong in thinking if Benatia joins, with Fernando and Sagna our spending limit is reached? And IF no one were to leave, the club can only sign freebies?

Stuart Brennan writes: “Manchester City have no intention of selling centre-back Matija Nastasic.

“The 21-year-old Serb is one of the four centre-backs manager Manuel Pellegrini wants in his squad next season, along with Vincent Kompany, Martin Demichelis and either Eliaquim Mangala or Mehdi Benatia.

“City are seeking to bring in a central defender, not lose another one, following the departure of Joleon Lescott. Nastasic missed the last four months of last season with a mystery knee injury but made his playing comeback in the post-season friendly with Al Ain.

“Mangala will determine his future after France’s World Cup campaign ends and City are maintaining interest in Benatia, although reports of a £30m bid are untrue.”

Brennan also reports Atletico remain interested in Alavaro Negredo – though City will resist any bids from the La Liga champions.

He continues: “Negredo, who achieved cult status with Blues fans during his first season at the Etihad, is also not for sale.

“Atletico Madrid head the list of clubs after Negredo, who finished the campaign on the bench following a loss of form.

“But City are focusing on what one club source described as the Spaniard’s ‘sensational’ form in the first half of the season when he scored 23 goals in 33 appearances. And they will rebuff any moves from Atletico, who want Negredo to replace Diego Costa, and Tottenham who are the latest to be linked.”

I thought he was good but not deserving of the hype he received on BM.

With the way we play, Pellegrini wants defenders who are proactive and want to take control. Nastasic is a defender who looks to react rather than stamp his authority on the game. He looked like a fish out of water when he played for us last season.

He's just turned 21!

He had a shaky season last year but the whole defence struggled to adapt for a chunk of the year. He showed great potential the season before

Admittedly the whole team struggled defensively. The team did not appear balanced.

What 'great potential' did he display in 2012/13? He had a midfield sat on top of him so he was rarely left exposed. His decision making was questionable, he was weak in the air and at defending set pieces, and his positioning and passing were hardly high quality. He is young but he needs to improve substantially if he is to be a starter for a team aiming to win the CL. If he had played the same number of games as Demichelis last season, I doubt we would have won the league.

Taking credit away from the lad by saying "He had a midfield sat on top of him so he was rarely left exposed" is complete bullshit. That first season here he was good enough to push lescott out of the side, playing consistently at champions league level and not looking out of his depth at all. If you couldn't see the potential there then that's your problem not Nastasic's. Obviously he isn't the finished article and needs to improve, but he's got plenty of time for that

But yea, let's sell the 2013 young player of the year on the cheap after 1 injury plagued season. Great thinking. Thankfully, I'm pretty sure the powers that be at the club don't have such short memories and can see further than the end of their noses and there's absolutely no chance Nasti will be leaving
