Metrolink to / from Etihad

I apologize for my advice about getting the tram. It seems like last night was a nightmare!

Glad no-one was seriously hurt.
On the way back to Lancs the idiots closed the exit from the M60 to the M61 and the one from the M66 at the same time shutting all routes north. I got home at 12.30am. The Salford route was also blocked by roadworks. We have the worst transport links in Europe.

Agreed.

Either that, or it's all organized by United fans at the council. There's no way this type of stuff happens whenever they play!

Yep, the public transport in mcr is awful.

For me to get to the game from Urmston using public transport would cost more, be less convenient and take longer than just driving - so I drive.
I catch the train at Urmston or Flixton and the tram from town, costs about £9 return.

The roads are far worse and parking is £6 or £7.

I never drive to the match unless I absolutely have to

On the other hand tram came to my rescue last night - traffic coming in from the south was horrendous. So eventually decided to stop at East Didsbury (It's really Parrswood) - use their charging points and head into the city by tram. Time for a quick meet up in the Bulls Head and then taxi - that bit would have been quicker walking - so missed out on chips but made it for the light show. Going home - brother dropped me at a fully charged car - might just use that route a bit more often.

As I envisaged, last night was horrendous. Granted, there were a couple of unfortunate occurences. Absolute carnage at Market St on the way in due to the scheduled maintenance approaching Picc Gardens. Waited at Victoria, but a signal fault wouldn't let any trams leave for the match, East Did etc, which only compounded matters. I think the situation for the next 3 games will be similar. I like the tram system on the whole, but crikey it's shocking on occasions.

As Piccadilly centre is closed now how do you get to the stadium from Altrincham? I'm aware the trams are running to market Street but is it still possible to change at Cornbrook?

There are no trams at all running across town ( St Peter’s to Piccadilly and beyond ) Only from Victoria. So you’d have to change at Market Street from Altrincham. Not sure on the time scale. I’ve just read a poster and it says until “early November “ which is a bit vague.

Yes bit of a nightmare. Also the trains on strike too otherwise I'd have caught that.

Even worse from Eccles. They’ve been off completely for months. Now they’re back on you’ve got to change twice, Cornbrook and Market Street. Hopefully everything is all sorted before the World Cup break is over.

29th November end date, which includes a week of nothing at all (22nd - 29th) through Picc Gardens. Next 3 games is the same drill as last night.
