Quick query, does a train ticket enable you to travel in Zone 1 ie between Vic and Picc stations in lieu of buying a tram ticket?

Yes. Your ticket might say Manchester CTLZ meaning Central Zone which allows travel on trams between Vic & Picc (New Islington actually) & Cornbrook.

As mentioned above as long as the destination says Manchester Ctl Zone it's included if it says Manchester Stns it doesn't include tram travel in the city centre.

Also if it’s between any two stations both in the GM travel zone.

No, change at Cornbrook or anywhere in City Centre.

They run direct to Etihad from Eccles, Media City and Ashton.

Coming home afterwards, they are direct to Alty.

It's always hit and miss tbh mate. Your best bet is to change at Cornbrook onto the Ashton line, or if you're able, leave a bit of time and walk from town.

first time i have been on a tram as i go near the ground to park, but deciced to park 4 stops away on the ashton line, getting to ground was ok a bit crowded but ok, coming back is what a difference, was told at top of stairs a tram be about 3 mins. correct but nobody could get on as they put it back on to the manchester line, another 1 came in another 6 mins and it was packed when it left, so first one could of took 1/2 of people waiting, if a tram is allocated to go to ashton, then it should go there. while waiting for the other 3 another 2 trams went pass they was also packed, apart from H & S why isnt people watching how many are getting on

Can’t complain. Going to the Etihad from Piccadilly Train Station. Tap in and out. Even though the tram was full I got a seat on the double tram.
