Metrolink to / from Etihad

No one gives a fuck about cricket mate, take that to the empty seats thread.
There are a good number of us on here that enjoy cricket. I am of an age that saw football players turn out for county cricket clubs in the off-season (that’s a laugh these days).

Jack Dyson who was in our 1956 FA Cup winning side was a regular for Lancashire.

Chris Balderston played for Leicestershire and doncaster rovers on the same day back in the 70s, only cricketer / footballer to do it

Denis Compton of Brylcreem fame was a fantastic cricketer and played 54 matches for the Arse.

Also do not forget:

Maxwell Woosnam (6 September 1892 – 14 July 1965) was a British sportsman who is sometimes referred to as the 'Greatest British sportsman' in recognition of his achievements.

Among his achievements were winning an Olympic gold and silver in tennis at the 1920 Summer Olympics, winning the doubles at Wimbledon, compiling a 147 break in snooker, making a century at Lord's Cricket Ground, captaining the British Davis Cup team, captaining Manchester City F.C. finishing ultimately runners-up for the Football League Championship in 1920–21, and captaining the England national football team.

Beefy Botham also played for Scunthorpe Utd and scored a goal for Yeovil Town.

Or maybe this one:

But nobody cares about Cricket and City, right?

But did he play the same day
As Chris did, he was batting at the last over and then got back to donny to play at 7 30

Metrolink are buggering about again it will effect the Bournemouth game on the 2nd November, especially for those of us travelling from Altrincham.

Me and two lads from school often had a morning watching Lancs at O.T. then run to Maine Road for three o' clock.

Loved early teen weekends early footy season in the 70s footy at Maine Rd Saturday and Sunday league at OT Sundays
City and Lancy usually won, all I cared about before I discovered girls.

Could never decide if my greatest sporting was Colin Bell or Clive Lloyd.

Hardly a world class service is it?

Problems yesterday with overhead power lines and constant line closures for maintenance.

Also be aware the Altrincham service is terminating at Old Trafford on Sunday 2nd November the day we play Bournemouth.

Looks like a tram pantograph got caught up in the overhead wires and pulled a large section down. This is the problem with trams fed by overhead power, I suppose. It has to be inspected regularly to avoid it occurring which means shutting down sections for maintenance.

After the Everton game I got a tram to Piccadilly where I was going to get my connecting tram back to Altrincham. The main tram stop board said 5 minute wait and right on time it arrived but suddenly the tram info boards changed to not in service. There was an announcement that it had a technical fault and it left completely empty. Took another 10 minutes for a replacement to arrive.

Personally I think Metrolink are fucking useless.

I have never used it but you can travel direct from the Etihad to Altrincham Interchange using Matchday bus 10.

I use Matchday Bus 7. On the way back, they will drop you off at any bus stop on the route but on the way in, they only stop at the advertised stops:

This might be an alternative for those fed up with the Metrolink.

Personally I would have been delighted by the 10 mins..

For those of us old enough to remember the launch of Metrolink, a lot of the problems were foreseen. The slow service compared to the previous trains (Bury and Altrincham), the issues in the city centre and sharing with cars causing mayhem. We knew this was just a half-arsed solution after Picc-Vic was shelved. Unfortunately we’re stuck with it now, but it really needs expanding faster than it is.

Bloody hell they struggle to run the current network with any resemblance of efficiency.

What sort of balls up would they make of an expanded network?

On saturday got to tram stop to go to ashton moss and 1st tram not in service, 2nd tram came and only 2 carriages which in seconds was full. Way too many people on it but still more trying to get on and people started to push those trying to get on back off, it must of took a few minutes for doors finally close and set off, now with 2 more carriages on it would of been fine and less crowded, but if it keep 2 carriages its going to get messy
