I always walk from Piccadilly to the stadium. Quicker overall avoiding faffing around queuing for trams, and the added bonus of being able to nip in for a quick beer at the Cloudwater bar en route. Win win !!!
I started using the tram from the etihad when it first opened years ago....what a complete and utter waste of time.
It was back to walking for me . You can,t beat it...its only 20 min at a good pace, whats not to like?

The cold wind and rain? I get the bus back into town but this is frustrating. You are in one long queue that isn't managed very well and moves extremely slowly due to half wits farting about with money. In spite of most of them getting the bus every week they still don't appear to know the price or have the money ready. The sooner they make it contactless or pre paid tickets only the better.

It is insanity why they can't and won't run direct trams from these areas on match days. Anyone know why not?

Here's my theory why they don't. After the match they let a load of people onto the platform to wait for the next tram, it arrives but is going to Eccles so no one gets on as they are waiting for the Altrincham tram and so the platform is congested, (or vice versa)
As I say just a theory, it is stupid how they cannot organise a better service.

Possibly, but they could still run them TO the stadium on match days. I would say the two most popular trams are to Bury and Altrincham. So why not just run trams there directly after the game? Anyone going to Eccles, Didsbury, Wythenshawe would get on.these and change en route, meaning no crush on the platforms.

stagecoach buses are already contactless

I am aware all the buses in Greater Manchester accept contactless, at least those smart cards they have brought out, but too many still pay with cash holding everyone up. Perhaps they could have a ticket seller patrolkingbthe queue selling tickets before people get to the diver.

I totally agree with you, I was just trying to make a suggestion as to why they don't do it. It isn't hard to get it sorted, it is more they couldn't be arsed.

They don't seem to want to do or change anything, or listen to advice. I would pre empt their reply as it would disrupt their scheduled services, but we are only talking one or two days a week and a small time schedule. Also surely they have a responsibility to match going customers too?
