I read that as well Matty on BBC news .......but the way it is reported is that Sheilds's family have told Jack Straw that they heard this confession again....Jack Straw hasn't heard it first hand...IMO its hear-say....yet the home secretary has believed this hear-say........as I said before Is there an election soon ?????

yeah, but Matt a tv programme can make you look a **** or a hero depending how hey wish to edit it.
Shields was picked out a number of independant witnesses who said he threw the paving slab....thats the crux of the matter...why would they lie.
Why is a tv show any more or less reliable than a newspaper story. Both TV and newspapers are edited to convince the viewer/reader of the line they trying to convey. I believe the show was "Tonight" which has produced a number of shows on varying topics and doesn't to be fair tend to lend itself to sensationalism. . Look, Ive already said there's two sides to every story, of that I'm sure. In regard to the witnesses, is it possible they could be mistaken? There are doubts cast over the whole case, its possible only and handful of people actually know who's guilty or not.

One thing that has always puzzled me about the whole hysteria that LFC have drummed up over this subject is that there is little doubt that whoever DID attack the Bulagrian guy is a Liverpool supporter. Surely, if there's been a confession, adn this has lead Jack Straw to release Shields, then he HAS been rooted out. I'd imagine the Scousers will now be clammouring for the guilty party to be thrown in jail to serve the sentence? Nope, thought not.
In fact, I'd be surprised, should the "confessor" be brought to trial, they'd be able to convict him.

Campaigners say Michael Shields, 22, was the victim of a miscarriage of justice.
His father, also Michael, is considering standing for the Blackburn seat to protest after the Justice Secretary indicated he would not pardon his son.
Michael's mum Maria could stand against a junior minister in Liverpool.
Both would run an Honesty in Politics campaign. A source said: "They are angry about how Jack Straw treated the case."
Michael was convicted in 2005 despite another Liverpool fan confessing. He is due for release next year.

If he has been released on the strength of this "Confession" and immunity from criminal prosecution has indeed been granted, where would that leave the victim in regards of pursuing this through the Civil or European courts I wonder ?
