Michael Shields Freed

Can't believe he was released remember being sent that Telegraph article when it was published he was guilty there is little doubt about it yet when the scousers get a bee in their bonnet it's obviously a miscarriage of justice. Only people to report the "big fella with dark hair" Shields mates.

So, yet another victim has no justice, another crime goes unpunished. Who cares for the head damaged victim now?

It isn't just scousers to be fair. Whenever an English person does something abroad it's always someone else's fault. The scousers just know how to cry louder than the rest of us. Just have to wait until he caves someone's head in in Birkenhead one Saturday night now then they'll all look like tits.

Looking at what Jack Straw has said regarding his reasons for releasing Shields, I'm fully expecting them to go after the person who supposedly "confessed" in front of members of Shields family (presumably Graham Sankey). If they don't pursue anybody now that Shields is free then it is a disgrace.

Interesting stuff from a Liverpool fan on another forum re Shields' arrest and Graham Sankey. If true then my attitude towards Shields could well soften:

Pure scouse propoganda

Perhaps it is. I'm still inclined to believe that Shields is the guilty party, but this bloke made some points that gave a different slant to things, and in all fairness he was pretty much implying that Sankey is the man responsible which goes against the general feeling amongst many people, myself included, that Sankey's "confession" was just a smokescreen to get Shields released. He said in another post that the man believed to be responsible (presumably Sankey) is well known to police in Liverpool and has committed other crimes too.

How?? It was a crime in Bulgaria they got the right man the evidence was pretty firm. There is no way charges could be raised here in the UK.

Straw pretty much says that Shields is innocent and that another bloke (Sankey) confessed to it. If that's the case then our government should have Sankey extradited to Bulgaria to face a new trial.

I myself still think Shields did it by the way.

Agreed he did it. The holes in Sankeys confession where spotted his version is so different form what the eye witnesses report. I fully believe Jack Straw caved in because of constant pressure. Just a few months ago he stated he wouldn't do it because on review the evidence seemed firm.

As Dubai Blue quite rightly points out, LFC's role in all this has been sickening. The only thing that is completely without doubt in this sorry episode is that a Liverpool supporter from the City bounced a paving slab off another human being's head. How are the club in a postition to act in a holier than thou manner and now celebrate Shields's release? One of their own attempted to kill a man and that person is free as a bird. Is that a cause for celebration?

Are you also aware that the Bishop of Liverpool read out a statment on Shields's behalf? It would be funny if it wasn't in such bad taste.

Political decision. I think the arguments for and against on this thread are more in depth than what the government have discussed.

General election not long off. Go figure...
