Might have to do with the risk to 'import' terrorism. Not even Arab states want them.
Another difficulty is the fact that you can't get them out even for good legal reasons as many count as 'stateless' or of unspecified nationality, so there's no state you could send them back to. Often discussed in Germany.

For many years peace in NI looked impossible. This is an even greater challenge and it needs good faith from the west and arab world and massive diplomatic effort. The disarming of Hamas and Hezbollah by a 3rd party without massive loss of life seems impossible but I think it’s the only way forward. As you say, what is the alternative.

Well we've given about £400m of humanitarian aid to Ukraine not including the £3Bn military aid.

Our total foreign aid budget is £7Bn, of which Palestinians get £30m p/a.

So giving £10m to Gaza does seem insultingly little. We'll make a lot more than that selling arms to Israel this year.

Almost sounds like - you rob £100m from someone’s house in the middle of the night and give them £10m in the morning to get a thank you. And you may get that thank you if the person robbed doesn’t know you robbed them. But international arms sales are hardly discreet.

No doubt some of them were but more of the Mujahideen ended up in the Northern Alliance than in the Taliban. The Taliban had totally different leadership and aims than the Mujahideen.
