Hamas’ attack on Israel on October 7 caught the Israeli army unprepared. But somebody seemingly knew in advance and made billions betting against Israeli shares traded locally and on Wall Street five days before the attack.

Perhaps the much vaunted Israeli security were aware of an impending attack and let it happen to give them the excuse for their current actions?
Even if true, I do doubt if they anticipated the savageness of the Hamas attack.

Just read an article on the BBC about how Hamas are weaponising sex, or rape to be frank. It's the hardest thing I've read in a long time, please be aware before you look at it that even the usual earnings don't do it justice.

There are a few Palestine flags in windows that I see on the walk to school with the kids, up to now I've always rationalised it as deeper than just one attack, certainly not one sided and very historical. But I'm finding it hard to be 'ok' with such public shows of support in light of the news we are getting every day out of this, especially as a few are houses belonging to families I know and chat with.

Russia have been doing the same , i dare say the idf do it as well , where have you been , it is what happens to all sides in most wars

According to the New York Times (here's the link) Israeli intelligence did indeed know about the Hamas attack plan more than a year ago, in quite some detail - e.g. including the use of paragliders to cross the fence. They didn't know the planned date however, according to the reporting, and presumably intelligence services get all kinds of information that sometimes turns out to be wrong, so they can't take it all as gospel. Still, it does sound like a pretty colossal fuck up on their part, and another reason that this whole thing is going to massively shake up Israeli politics (in addition to the catastrophic and in my opinion unjustifiable destruction it's wrought on the people in Gaza).

Worth bearing in mind that if there was short selling of Israeli stocks before the attack - if it actually was based on prior knowledge or suspicion, as opposed to other possible reasons - it could just as easily been from someone who had knowledge from the perpetrators' side.

I have recently been reading a book about the Russian Revolution and the Civil War, and I honestly do not know which side was worse. Both were absolute abominations.

The problem is the human race never learns, and the guys in charge seem to love war.

I’ve done similar but for more recent conflicts like the wars in Bosnia that led to the Dayton Accords or the issues in Ireland that led to the Good Friday agreement. The biggest take I get from those conflicts is that life is unfair. Some bad people will “get away” with horrible acts and in general no side left the deal all that happy but the peace that came after it made it worth it.
