Middle East Conflict

Yeah. Cunning those Jews.

Tbf PB, that isn't what he said and I am pretty sure he didn't mean that either.

I must admit, the thought had crossed my mind at the start of all this that Netanyahu may have downplayed warnings so that he could be tough on Hamas at a time when he was on the ropes politically. You must admit this has bought him some time.

And before the usuals say "yes, sure, like he would give up 1700 lives", that isn't what I said. But he could have welcomed what he thought would be a small incursion, like on other occasions, for political expediency. Is that thought so preposterous? Let's not forget he is a complete **** and was in trouble.

Is it harder to believe than the great Israeli intelligence agencies being completely AWOL in the build up to the incursion?

If they wipe Hamas out, or their ability to carry out acts of terror, then their security situation will have improved significantly.

I'm staggered (although maybe I shouldn't be) that a number of posters would seemingly prefer a terror group to retain its capacity to inflict deaths and injury on a democratic nation, rather than have that ability removed from them. It's almost like logic gets turned on its head when Jews are involved.

It looks and sounds like their goal is to wipe out Palestine to me, and therefore Hamas, rather than just wiping out Hamas from Palestine.

I'm not sure why Palestinians are responsible for the crimes committed by the Third Reich or other countries.
Not responsible but actively supported.
Google Grand Mufti Haj Amin el Husseini and his association with Hitler.
Hamas aren’t the first Palestinians that supported killing all the Jews.

No one is supporting Hamas?
Bollox - calling for intifada from London to Gaza in demo's today I see.
Tearing down posters referring to the missing captured in the raid on Israel.
I could go on but there's no point as it would be a waste of time.
I was talking to someone who was in town today who walked through the demo to get a tram. It was notable to her that there was no anti Hamas sentiment in the crowd.

I care about all lives equally, this isn't a fight over who is more important.

I'll just repeat that both sides have to stop. If that happens then the deaths on both sides will stop.

And my question still stands, if Israel stops then what should be done about the continued rocket attacks?

They have Iron dome don't they?

The invasion wasn't sparked by rocket attacks it was sparked by an invasion of hundreds of militants.

And the militants died at a roughly 1:1 ratio to each Israeli life. They knew they were on suicide missions unless they were part of the crew who went back to Gaza with hostages.

The rockets aren't particularly effective.

Israel isn't likely to be so daft to allow that kind of invasion from Gaza again.

What you are saying is that Israel has the right to kill tens of thousands of people to take out the rockets which kill only a small number of people.

I would read the post to which you responded with this comment as being a fairly typical response to an obvious failure of government i.e. it's so bad a failure was it allowed to happen in order to provide a pretext? That question has been asked countless times of many political/intelligence/military failures over the decades including for example Pearl Harbour and the Falklands. You may or may not think it's some form of conspiracy type thinking but I think in this instance it's a bit of a stretch to think it might be anti-Semitic in nature (caveat: I haven't looked at the posters prev comments so don't know if there's something prior that might have made you respond like that).

Indeed. One of the main reasons that the British tolerated Haganah was that Haganah (obviously) supported the broad Allied war aims and suspended attacks on the British forces in Palestine. The formation of groups like Irgun was as a reaction to the suspension of hostilities by Haganah.
