Mike Doyle tribute ?

Mike Doyle's finest moment was when he fronted up to the entire Stretford end and none of them would come anywhere near him. It's extremely hard to find that footage now but it's brilliant. Fans love to say that modern players 'bleed blue' and all that but it's a long time since a lifelong blue spent his entire career in the shirt.

I was lucky enough to witness the parting of the Red Sea in person.

Daniel Timperley, what a top guy…….Many thanks mate for this great idea to you and all the City fans.
My old man wouldn't of been that bothered that City did nothing when he died as he had lived the dream and played for the club he loved.
He would however be very grateful and proud to you the supporters for what you are trying to do on Sunday.
When we won the League Cup in 76 the first thing my Dad did was go and salute the City supporters ( sure he even jumped in the crowd )
The supporters are Man City.
Thanks again and enjoy Sunday………..You deserve it.

May I add my good wishes, Scott. I watched your dad so many times and he was an absolute credit to the club during a (mostly) golden era. One of my favourite players of the title winning side because he really helped to drive the team.

Now that is a brilliant thing to have witnessed, OB. I'm going to go and look for the footage.

Someone posted it recently so it shouldn't be too difficult to find. When you do, perhaps you'd re-post it for the benefit of all of us, DD. Cheers.

Nice one, DD.

That would have been a fair fight: Mike Doyle agains 1,000 rags.

Well done to the lad that has set the tribute up. I hope everyone will join in and bring the f**kin' house down.

I was at Wembley in 76, as an 11 year old, with my dad. It was my second time there, following the defeat to Wolves 2 years earlier. What a day!

Watching the youtube footage last night had me in tears.

As a Withington lad, we used to bike it down Yew Tree Lane in the 70's and sneak in the Main stand (one of the turnstyle doors was always unlocked) and watch them train. Usually it would end up with Stan chasing us out!

A few years later in the early 80's, I must have been about 18, I biked it down on my own just for something to do. It was the day before a home derby.

I sat on my bike outside the main entrance and, lo and behold, a car pulls on to the car park and out gets Mick Doyle. My eyes lit up and as he passed I shouted to him, asking if he was playing tomorrow.

Now at this time, he had left and was playing for Bolton or Rochdale. He could have blanked me but instead he laughed and came over to me. I'll never forget his words- "I wish I bloody was!"

I then spent the next couple of minutes talking and laughing with him about all things City, before he made his way into the ground.

I'll never forget that meeting and, more importantly, we should never forget that he, perhaps more than any former player, was one of us.

MICK DOYLE!

This thread is brilliant - and if you ever need evidence as to why we all love this club and what makes us so special you will find it here. Let's sing our hearts out on Sunday - not just for Mike Doyle but let's back our fantastic team and bring some more silverware home. Blue Army.
