i agree in parts about milner...he isnt a flair player he is just a work horse but thats the sort of player it seems a lot of fans want to see.....at city a lot of fans would rather have dickov than robinho or a goater than an ade....we all know who the tecnically better players are and in the end the ones that will win you something.....what we actually need is a blend of both int he team.....we have the work horses in bellamy, tevez but we need to add crerativity and flair...we only have a couple of those types of player at present and they are the likes of ireland, swp and johnson.....

Milner for me isnt the player we need...he has been converted from an average winger to a work horse in the middle of the park but he is nowhere near as good as gerrard was at the top of his game...milner wont reach those heights ever in my opinion

With you 100%. The fact that City fans prefer Bellamy to Robinho tells you everything you need to know about the average City fan. We've gone for so long valuing workrate and committment above everything else, that we are willing to sacrifice quality players like Robinho, Elano, Adebayor, because they're 'lazy' or have a 'bad attitude'. God help us if we sign Ibrahimovic. I think some City fans will explode with anger if he ever pulls on a City shirt.

Don't agree. Gio Kinkladze was a fans favourite as was Ali B. Neither huffed and puffed. Bellamy offers a bit more than just hard work as does Tevez. Steve Lomas ran around alot but it didn't do much for me.

Elano was sidelined by Hughes not by the fans. Great player and would like to have seen what Mancini would have done with him. I think Ade has had a pretty good season all things considered. Robinho has come in for stick mainly for his very indiscreet remarks in the world's press.

Ah Elano. <sigh>

Assuming we beat France in the quarters, we will on 6th (or 7th July, can't remember) see again how good Elano and Robinho are when we get murdered by Brazil in the semis.

What a tragic loss, letting him go.

Think that's unfair to a few people, myself.

Firstly, the likes of Bellamy are far more than just workhorses.

Secondly, the best teams have players who both work hard and have flair. How many shirkers to Chelsea pick? Arguably only Drogba, and he is temperamental rather than lazy. I wouldn't say any of arsenal's forwards or midfielders except possibly arshavin have problematic workrate. The maximum a top team can carry is one 'shirker' IMO.

Thirdly, if you're buying central midfielders you definitely need them to have high work rate. The best ones all do - every member of the Barca midfield works hard, so does every member of the Inter/Rag/Chelsea midfield.

Obviously it's not enough just to be a workhorse, otherwise we might as well sign dross like George Boateng/Kevin Nolan. But Milner can pass, cross and shoot well off both feet, plays in multiple positions, and has the technique to score goals in several different ways. Hardly just a workhorse.

I think alot of you are really underating milner. He, for me is a Gerrard type of player, tough in the tackle, quick burst of pace, great passing range, great shot and a fookin massive engine, who do we have like that in the squad? I'd pay 30 at the very least.

fans prefer the likes of bellamy to robinho because you need a bit more than silky skills and tricks to make it in the prem, the way the EPL is the work ethic is first and foremost its just the way the league is

this is why the likes of tevez who will offer both ability and work rate are a rare commodity

i can see why some may prefer a player who looks like he cares by offering 100% effort than a player like robinho who will only give you something when it suits him and basically looks like he does not give a shit
i was always told if you give 100% you will never have a bad game and it is true
also when things are not going right for you in a game in other words things don't come off you must ensure you do the shitty stuff basically work hard
to sum up robinho is not suited to the EPL in the same way elano was not because they were unable to do the shitty stuff they were to easily bullied in games and very infective when given no time on the ball

Quid? Blimey we can have a whip round for that.

What would you rather have?
A team of flair players like Robhino, Elano that wins fcuk all
or
a team of grafters like Tevez, Bellamy that wins Premiership and Chumps league.

Combination of the two - why should we settle for anything less? Many consider Messi to be among the world's best players but he also works hard and his attitude is beyond reproach. The talk of Robinho going to Barcelona makes me laugh - would you take him if you were Guardiola?

We won loads with those grafters this season.

I guarantee if we had had Robinho and Elano this season we would have finished in the top 4.
