Well if Carrick cost 18mil 4 year ago and Milners better and Carrick was undoubtably one of the reasons we were beaten in the CC semi (evidenced by him slotting the ball in the back of the net) then errr....how much is Milner worth again....

Milner is better than Carrick?? Says who? Thats a matter of opinion. Carrick has winners medals whereas Milner hasnt. Granted he didnt prior to joining the rags but £18m was seen as a high fee for him at the time - we are talking £10m more for a player is is not as established in the premier league or england set up as Carrick was when he went for £18m

What would you rather have?
A team of flair players like Robhino, Elano that wins fcuk all
or
a team of grafters like Tevez, Bellamy that wins Premiership and Chumps league.

Combination of the two - why should we settle for anything less? Many consider Messi to be among the world's best players but he also works hard and his attitude is beyond reproach. The talk of Robinho going to Barcelona makes me laugh - would you take him if you were Guardiola?

If i was Guardiola i'd take him because apart from Pedro they don't really have a player who's best position is on the left of a front three and Robinho has already shown he can perform to a very high standard in La Liga. Theres also the small matter of Robinho's ability, lets be honest ability wise he is a top player, for me there is no doubting that. He has performed for Brazil and Madrid, two of the best teams in world football and had a good first season in English football

The problem with Robinho comes down to his attitude rather than his playing ability

We won loads with those grafters this season.

I guarantee if we had had Robinho and Elano this season we would have finished in the top 4.

With them in the team we never finished higher than tenth, so you can not guarantee anything really.

How much did MH spend that summer, answers your own question..

totally agree that the fee for milner is to high but what we should not forget is that he is still contracted to villa and if we want him it is going to cost us or any other club for that matter

villa will not be bullied into selling milner in the same way we were not bullied when it came to selling SWP to chelsea we got £21mill for SWP and there was no way he was worth it but chelsea wanted him and paid what we wanted

the same will apply with milner if he wants out of villa we will have to pay what villa want weather he is worth it or not it does not matter it is the price we will have to pay simple as that

Its not the actual fee that bothers me as it isnt my money. Its the fact we are paying that fee for an average footballer who has not lit up any games with a bit of magic or won a game singlehandly or controlled a game from start to finish. He works hard and has a decent level of consistency. He will never (imo) be considered one of the best and comparisons to Gerrard will fall flat over time (imo). If Milner costs us £28m other clubs will use that as a yardstick and say if Milner is worth £28m then Modric is worth £40m, Rodwell is worth £25m etc etc.

Again in my opinion SWP was a far better prospect than Milner when we signed him and had actually lit up games and scored goals from nothing to win us games

Think thats why we have only bid 20m(18m + 2m) and not going any higher.

Ok i think £18/20m is still OTT but given thats what we paid for lescott then I can see where that has come from. For decent established premier league players it would seem that £20m is the cost to us when the selling club doesnt want or need to sell. For an extra £10m i want a bit more than average.

if you consider the fee for gerrard if he leaves liverpool will not be much more than £30mill in my opinion, what villa are asking for milner is excessive but that is not milners fault i can understand people wanting more for there money but mancini if we are to believe sees something in milner and will probably end up paying what villa want

with regards to other transfers it won't make a bit of difference to other clubs and city signing other players as there is a premium any way when it comes to city which is what we are seeing with the milner deal and to a lesser extent the toure deal

i think milner would be a good addition to our squad and if that means paying over the top that's the way it will have to be and i think that will go for any signings city want to make

So how are you going to prove, you could Guarantee we would have finished in the top four, if we had those two players playing for us this season ?

I think Milner is good enough to be a top player in the future but we shouldn't be looking to pay more than £20m for him, when you consider we only payed £25m for Tevez, £7m for AJ and £14m for Bellamy, who are in many eyes, are best three players it puts it into context that paying £28m for James Milner is stupid.

As I said he could go on to be Englands best midfielder over the next 5 years but I would defo put Silva ahead of him as a priority to sign, if that one fails then go in for Milner with £20m + Onuoha or something similar, if rejected, move on to plan C.

Last summer we overspent on Lescott and RSC and they were major factors in Hughes loosing his job imo, we can't continue to keep overspending so much on players, I do rate Lescott and belive him and Kompany form are strongest partnership at the back, but £22m was day light robery.
