Do you think he's good enough to play in the Champions League/title winning side? Because not wanting to sound arrogant, that's what we are aiming for and Milner seems a fairly long-term addition with his age.

Easily. Think Lampard 8 years ago.

I hope you're right, so central midfield is his best position yeah?

Villa fan here.

O'Neill does not usually talk to the press about transfers. This very much sounds like a deal has probably already been agreed. Milner is back from holiday this weekend.

This is O'Neill's way of breaking it to the Villa fans.

This is so much different to the Barry/Liverpool saga with deadlines and anger. It seems more cordial (maybe players involved later down the line).

I expect the deal to be at the £24m mark by Monday/Tuesday.

Is O'Shea good enough, is Diaby, is Fletcher, is Kalou...they can't all be big names!!

My problem with NDJ is that he is completely one-dimensional. Admittedly though what he does, he does very very well.

Which is precisely what he is employed to be.
Ask Jose about Makelele's influence in Chelsea's first title win.

Players like NDJ are priceless.

i love nige especially as a person due to his pasion and drive. but i feel this is where the blue tinted specs come on mate. no disrespect.
strange as i was speaking about the same thing last night with a friend. Makele > de jong
simple to be honest. Makelele is the best defensive midfielder i have ever seen grace the premier league, everything came through him at chelsea. he just oozes class- along with breaking everything up. he didnt possess great power, just world class reading of the game and he couldnt half spray a pass..forward too. Nige is a destroyer and imho limited to nothing more than that. To compare him to makelele atm is pretty silly

I know. They all are fantastic players. Milner will never be as good as them thats for sure.

Milner will be a good squad player but 20 Million.... cmon.

The boy does not set the price. Rio Ferdinand was not worth £19m when Leeds paid West Ham.

Manure and another £30m transfer later, proves you must pay top dollar for what can be perceived as a great talent in the making.

People are liars if they are saying Rooney was worth £30m at the age of 18.

He wasn't, but he's worth triple now.

My only point is, when we are at Stoke on a pissing Wednesday night, these are the type of quality additions that make the difference.

The lad has literally kissed goodbye to a £4m pay-off, having told Villa that he wants to quit.

We continually moan about signing players who want to come to the club.

As yourself why this kid wants to , he has his pick. They can't all be wrong.

It just so happens we can offer the most to Villa. We have seen in the past with Kaka that means nowt.

Milner is going to be one of the very best midfielders in this country over the next four years.

You only get to the top with the right attitude. Lampard and Gerrard had it, so does Milner.

Would be a brilliant addition.

If the signing of Milner restricts Michael Johnson's first team chances (or worst still brings about his exit), then this is a bad move by the club imo, as Johnson is the better player. I reckon it's Johnson, not Milner, that's destined for the top.

I think MJ was the better 'prospect'...but with his off the field activities and lack of fitness I have my doubts..

you HAVE to have players like milner in your sqaud, i think he would be an amazing addition, 20million tops though.

get over it,hes coming, start supporting ur club

IMO final piece in the midfield jigsaw, if we sign Balotelli and Kolorov as well and with the likes of Tevez I am hoping we will have the ability to score goals from outside the box and get that all allusive goal of the season as well :-)
