Lampard and Gerrard won't be around forever and I wouldn't bet against Milner being in the centre of Englands midfield for years to come. Sometimes you have to pay for serious potential, like Chelsea did when they were unable to bring in top drawer players but had Abramovics millions to spend. Ranieiri had the foresight to spend good money on Cole and Lampard and they were central to their many successes over the coming years.

That said, at least Milner is a very good age and we'll get a lot of worth out of him. He's also got a great attitude, is versatile and will be here to do the business and not just to cash his check. It seems a fairly safe but good addition to the squad, and I s'pose you have to pay for that
