Is it our money? No, so stop being so sanctimonious. The market is as the market does.

And Milner is worth top dollar. Third highest in assists last season just behind Fabregas which goes some way to dispelling the ridiculous notion that he's not creative. Where was Ireland in the assists table......?

When you get a player like Silva or Yaya Toure for around 25m it is blatently obvious that paying the same or even more for an average player (in comparison) like Milner is utterly ridiculous. And please stop with the "it's not our money" chestnut. This is not sustainable in my opinion. No it is not our money but that does not mean fans should not worry about these insane sums that are being spent! And let's not even start to think about what O'Neil can do with that kind of money.

Top young England internationals of Milners calibre cost top dollar,as for it not being sustainable why?

MCFC will shortly unveil the plans for the Stadium development and surrounding land which will propell MCFC to the summit in terms of turnover in European football.

Your sounding like them pathetic shits on talkshite who are on a mission to drag the good name of MCFC through the gutter.

Ah okay because I am worried about the amount of money we are throwing at players like Milner (and RSC and Lescott before) that makes me a pathetic shit who wants to drag City's name into the Gutter?

Lovely.

You cant compare what we are looking at paying for Milner against RSC.

CRocky WAS overpriced and Hughes paid far far too much for him, he had a below average scoring record, and appearance record only challenged by Darren Anderton.

Milner IMO is the future England central midfield when LAmpard and Gerrard 'retire form international fotball'. OK so we are probably overpaying for him but we will have to get used to that for a short while but I think he will provide MUCH better value for money in the long term

I think it's an extortionate amount to pay for the guy (£20m+) but let's be honest he has performed consistently well for Villa, was Newcastle's best player by a mile even at such a young age and for such a young man has bags of experience. He certainly ofers a lot more than one season wonder Stephen Ireland. For some reason people seem to think Ireland is worth a similair amount as Milner which in my opinion is complete rubbish. He can play one position and if things aren't going his way he'll go into hiding and let the game pass him by without a care in the world. Based on Ireland's performances and career since making his first team debut in 2005 I'd say he is worth £7-10m tops.

What Milner offers us is more experience and an ability to perform well in a number of positions without any fuss or moaning about not being played in his favourite position. He does also pick up a fair number of assists and gets into positions to score goals. Apart from an inflated price tag which isn't his fault I don't see the problem with buying him.

Excellent post.

anyone think this deal could be done quickly now?? surely o`neill will want time to use the milner cash?

Couldn't agree more. Great post.

We cant simply keep signing flare players or good ball players like yaya and silva amonst others we also need the grafters of the team to energise speed of attack and chasing back to help out the defenders and milner fits the bill on that score... If rumours on here are true we are going to loose one of them players in bellamy, which need to be replaced, If thats not the case then all the better.....with Tevez, milner and bellamy or de yong. Teams are not going to have to long on the ball.. so this will be a great signing and i agree you have to pay that little bit more for English talent

We need some perspective here. James Milner is a proven talent at prem level over the last 6-years and he's still only 24 years old. He was young player of season last year and will undoubtedly be a success at City. Utd paid £23m for Rooney (remember he was 18 and still had much to prove) they paid £19m for Carrick. Utd, Chelsea have had to pay over the odds for years now it's our turn. I think we'll get him for £24-25M max...he'll make us stronger and better and ultimately more successful. As excited as I am about Yaya and Silva; none have played in the Prem and it's been a graveyard for many a foreign talent with a big reputation; Veron et al. In 2-years we won't need to buy at the current rate. The future is blue, the future is bright

What I find most satisfying so far in this saga is how Villa have jumped as soon as we were linked with Ramires and Donovan. We won't pay £30m and they know it, and I think we'd get away with just 1/2 million more on the original bid now. Although Milner may well be a professional who woudl get on with the job if he didn't move, it's only delaying his departure, and in 12 months time who's to say we'd even be back in for him? That would leave Villa looking to get what, £15-18M at most? Leaving aside whether he's worth the dosh, I think we've played a blinder.

O' Neil is resigned to losing him, was before the World Cup it seems, and has probably already spent the cash in his head on a couple of new players - Flamini or Parker would be one of those if reports are correct.

have you some gen for us flb?
or just the common knowledge we already know?

If you end up spending £ 25 Million on Milner, which is likely, you cant really say you have played a blinder lmao

Yesterday there were reports that Ozil might go for £15 and we are considering offering 25 for Milner. Get real the guy just isnt worth it, I cannot remember seeing Milner have a good game against us! In my opinion we still lack creativity from the centre of the park and thats where we should strengthen. Schweinsteiger, Snjeider, Gourcuff, Ozil, all better players than Milner WILL EVER BE imo. All four of the above would start in any team, would Milner? I dont think so, he wont start befor Silva, or Yaya, or De Jong for me, and Johnson is also a better player, he might be a better player than SWP but thats not hard and some people on here would prefer Ireland or Bellamy to him. SO WHY OH WHY is he a good buy? We have loads of homegrown lads in the squad so that isnt a reason either. Please Please RM see sense.

Guess you're on about your money. Fair enough, I can see that. Slightly embarrassing in my opinion, but hey ho.
I would be careful giving rivals to much money though. You might break into the top 4, and not be that fussed with the teams fighting it out for UEFA. But it's only a matter of time before caps are introduced to the English game, and handing out money to clubs with great history of developing and nurturing talent is a dangerous game.

Dont get me wrong, nothing against City really. Wouldn't mind seeing some new blood in the top 4, especially if you knocked out the self-righteous bastards, yeah we all know who they are. But the way you're going about it really isn't sustainable for the game.

Ozil would make Tevez look like Brad Pitt, I agree however he does look a great prospect and very creative which is what we were lacking in last season.

and which team are you bart??

I also cant help thinking if Milner was such a great player there would be less disagreement about us signing him! This amount of money for this type of player makes me more and more unhappy with professional football.
