i think the biggest factor in thesis that he wants to play in the middle his natural position. gutted to see him potentially leave. we really do have a problem with english players and its gonna make it harder to sign them- why would they come here knowing we dont have any
WE don't have a problem with english players at all, the real problem is "english players", Milner is one of the best available, a great trier, but ultimately he doesn't start because he's not good enough in any one position.
He should think Adam Johnson

He'll play more than enough games at City in the coming seasons as he's proved how good he is. He played in 17 League games, and he'll be a key player for City in the Champions League next season.

Like GDM has said, I'd rather keep him another year than let him leave for £10M.
Why do clubs think they can get our players cheap ? He's an England international wanted by two of the top 4 and a couple of clubs aspiring to reach the top 4. He's at his peak with at least another 6 years left in him. We would be utter mugs to let him go for anything under £20M

Our hands may be tied.

Our current regime have done a lot of good but have played with fire leaving Dzeko, Milner, Kolarov, and Nasri going into the summer with 12 months left on their contract.

Bang on - I suppose it was a bit tricky with a new manager coming in who would want to look at all the players and after last season you'd say Dzeko was disappointing, we didn;t see the best of Nasri and Kolarov had limited opportunities so difficult to judge him. I think Milner knows he's in a strong position and I'm telling you now, no club will offer us anywhere near £20m for him, they will all be thinking they can get him on the cheap...... Liverpool, Everton etc. I think our best bet maybe to use him as a make-weight in a deal for say Barkley or Leigton Baines (if there's any likelihood Kolarov will be leaving)

OliverKayTimes: Interesting re Milner. Has asked #mcfc if they'll let him leave. #afc #lfc keen. #mcfc don't want to sell, esp with homegrown quota issue

Hes the last player we would want to leave mainly due to the english quota.
Just what we need right now. Fuck sake.

We won't get anything for him either. The usual City discount/tax at work.

I do have this thought that Milner has got City cornered here because he knows this summer our homegrown quota is going to diminish significantly and how important it is going to be to us in next seasons Champions League.

I just have a feeling he wants a massive pay rise because he knows letting him go would mean that we have to go out and spend ridiculous money on a new homgrown player, he will know that we only have 49m to spend this summer and that has to get us a central defender, defensive midfielder and a back up right back.

This is his agent doing dirty work in my opinion, FFP has got us by the neck and we are going to be forced into paying Milner a ridiculous wage to stay.

If that is the case then let him go.

why?its what he pays his agent to do. If i was joe hart I'd be "questioning my future" in the press too.

Re: James Milner

milner will win trophies and play enough games to warrant an england squad place , he would also have to take a drop in salary if the dippers, geordies or neverton want to sign him , he only has to look at adam johnsons career since leaving us , not a hope of getting back in the england reckoning and an annual relegation battle . Is it better to play 40 games a season for the champions or 60 games for a mid table / relegation club ? , or maybe the media are having a slow news week , and are talking bollocks.

It is what is best for the club and not the player. He is a very useful squad player but not as good to be a regular starter. Both Roberto Mancini and Manuel Pellegrini seem to overlook him for a very good reason.

Me too, fair play to any player who is smart enough to do this.

Re: James Milner

He get's good game time, trophies, Champions League football and a massive pay packet at a club with fans that values him. He'd be mad to leave.

Not very smart at all as all he would be doing is swapping one bench for another if he did decide to go to either Arsenal or Liverpool, We have a new wage structure in place where the player will be given a lower basic salary but will be rewarded when we win trophies.
