Missing woman Nicola Bulley - inquest (P 158)

But has he come out of it with wads of cash?

I think he volunteered his services free of charge. I've no idea if he's been paid for his interviews.
Acting on the information he was given and the area he was assigned to search, plus his past experience of how bodies move once in the water, he was satisfied she wasn't in the area he searched. His mistake was to say with absolute certainty she wasn't in the river. They were all working on the assumption she went into the river by the bench. In his defence after he made that statement the police volunteered further information about her being a high risk person. He then stated that would have altered his search pattern if he had known that.
One strange thing very few people are mentioning is the people who found her. The media portrayed them to be a couple of walkers who spotted the body but by all accounts this doesn't appear to be true. The man is from Oldham and is a psychic brought in or volunteering his services to the police. Now either they got very lucky or he's a shit hot psychic to turn up and pinpoint the exact location and find her, when all the expert search teams missed her.
All in all a very sad case as are all missing person ones that end up tragically.

His job was indeed to search the river bed. It wasn't his job to insert himself at the centre of the story in the way he did or publicly undermine the police investigation at every given opportunity, but he still did. The fact his job was to focus on the river bed didn't stop him theorising about the phone on the bench and speculating it might be a decoy. The fact it was his job to search the river bed didn't stop him from publicly whingeing that he hadn't been briefed about her private life.

The fact he offered his services free of charge seems to have made him think that he had a right to shamelessly self promote and give his two cents on other parts of the investigation. He might be differentiating between the reeds and the river bed now but he has clearly inferring publicly that he believed she hadn't gone into the river and fuelling conspiracy theories and amateur detectives.

At the end of the day, none of us should even know Peter Faulding's name. The fact that we do is testament to his own attention seeking and now he has to suck up the consequences. His twitter feed for the past few weeks has been tweets about his involvement with the search for Nicola interspersed with testimonies from satisfied customers and him plugging his new book.
Agree with every word

Not often I’d call a thread to be deleted - but I think this should be one of them.
She has been found dead and it’s been a thoroughly depressing and shameful ordeal for her family - especially the social media/media side of it all.
Hope they can now get some form of closure.
Sickening hearing the media all day trying to shift blame and attention to the police too. Not Lancashire constabulary's finest hour, but essentially they turned out to be correct and did their jobs. Good to hear the family point the finger directly at disgusting media practices which amount to harassment.

We Mods often get accused of stiffling debate etc etc.
As long as the discussion remains on topic and "within good taste" then it should continue in my opinion. The results of the autopsy will be of interest, which will determine how long the body had been in the water for.

Do you honestly think either of those options are true?

He's just an oddball who went looking of his own accord and without asking permission.

I have no idea but neither the police or anybody else involved have rebutted his story. What isn't in doubt is he discovered the body.
