Missing woman Nicola Bulley - inquest (P 158)

Why is this particular missing person case getting so much publicity as sad as it is. I may have dreamt it but I am sure I drove past a poster this week on the Mancunian way that said 170,000 people a year go missing?

Probably because it's unusual compared to a lot of missing persons cases. There was a programme on the BBC called missing which covered a few cases. All of these the people were either suffering some form of mental illness or problems with an ex. Those two and money problems probably account in a lot of cases. This one is a young mother, apparently with no problems, who'd just dropped her kids off at school and was taking the dog for a walk then vanished in a very short time period. It also happened in an area considered very safe. Such would attract a lot of attention.

Thank you, I didn't know that.

It is still something I haven't heard of before and it begs the question: why don't our police people have top notch equipment. It sort of reminds me of those kids in Thailand stuck down those caves and international help was needed.... we shouldn't be in that situation in a rich country like ours.

Govt cutbacks over many years probably

No I get that, I was saying I have never known with anything like this before that a private (non-Police) diver being involved and speaking up. The Police have divers so why was he even involved?
He works with Police down South and offered to use his top quality sonar machine for free he said if she was in the river “he’d find her” he didn’t so the police divers are working down stream it’s a mystery

Offered his services free to the family, they accepted and the police agreed. His sonar can see every rock and twig under the surface, a diver has limited vision.

It is baffling as the river is not fast flowing. Where the assumed entry point is an object floating downstream has to negotiate a weir shortly after entering the water. For the rest of its length it meanders about all over the place before arriving at Fleetwood. There are lots of sand banks and shallow areas as well.

I hope the family get some sort of resolution, the longer this drags on the less chance there is of that though.

What I have found unusual about this case: some specialist diver in the papers - can't remember his name. A few days ago he was saying "if she is there I will find her", now he is saying she isn't there.... I thought the Police had their own divers and they would never normally make comment on their work.

Very odd.
He was using underwater sonar
