MLB 2024

I'm not an A's fan but I have nothing against them. They, in the past, have had some good and great teams. There are legitimate legends of the game who played for that club.

What has been done to their fans is an absolute travesty. I feel bad for them. It's as if the current owner did his best to drive fans away to make an excuse to move the club. I'm not sure why teams are wanting to move to Las Vegas. Yes. It's glitzy but they won't really have a large fan base. It's a transient city more so than many others. And it certainly isn't "recession proof." Maybe the Athletics owner and NFL team Raiders owner hope visitors to the city will spend money to watch a game? I don't know but it doesn't seem like a sound plan to me.https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2024/sep/26/oakland-athletics-final-game-john-fisher#:~:text=There is only one reason, city of Oakland, the city
That’s what they’ll be betting in so to speak, lots of visitors to Vegas the weather is guaranteed to sit in the sun and take in a game, then go and gamble etc. I’d hate to have that sort of system were they can just move a franchise, sickening,

I suppose so. And, I'd assume large numbers of visitors in the city taking in a game on a stag or hen do will be buying merchandise such as hats, tops, and etc after a few drinks. Whereas, long time actual fans will already have such things and not spending on something new every time.

It is sickening. I sincerely feel for the fans in Oakland who have loved that team for all their lives.

It is sadly a reality of professional US sports and their franchise system. Oakland was already their 3rd home after being founded in Philadelphia and later moving to Kansas City. They have been there a fair while though.

White Sox made modern-day history last night, losing their 121st game and ‘surpassing’ the Mets to now hold the worst record ever in the modern era. Congratulations and good luck to the Tigers.
It’s a bloody miracle what the tigers have done. They were something like 55-66 in August and are now 86-74. Had written it off as another poor season.

AL Central is going to go down to the wire, I think. Guardians had a big win in KC tonight though.
This is why I don’t bet on sports. Guardians won the division at a canter. The Twins meltdown this last month was epic, as was the Tigers hot streak. Momentum is everything in baseball and no-one’s gonna want to face Detroit in the postseason.

Season is over. Mets and braves playing a make up doubleheader as Atlanta had torrential rain last week.

Each team needs one win to get into the playoffs. If one team loses both, they are out. It would behoove both teams to save pitchers at any cost since they have to travel and play a game tomorrow.

This opens things up yo skullduggery like west Germany vs Austria in the 1982 World Cup..

That was intense.

LFGM!

Whatever happens it's been a great season, especially after that start and losing Senga, twice. The form team of the last few months. Can they keep it going? Doubtful but great to be in with a shout.

One of the most extraordinary games I have seen in the last 30 years. Diaz sucks and that’s why the Mets won’t go deep into the playoffs. You cannot have a dodgy closer in high pressure playoff games.

Let’s see who the Mets pitch in the second game…

Posting this here and not the “famous person who died today” thread, because I’m sure hardly anyone outside the US will know if him, but Pete Rose died today.

Great player, not a great person and I actually met him once at a work event and he was a prick.
Being a prick helped make him a great player but also meant a lot of people kept him from getting the awards and adulation his play deserved. Complex man.
