I really have tried to get into this American version of rounders, but just see my kids playing for their school teams.
Sorry chaps, but it does nothing for me.

It's hard to appreciate the skill involved unless you've played it yourself. Hitting a baseball is the hardest thing to do in sports.
Really? Ever tried to get a squash ball back after running 10 yards at top speed, with the hand/eye coordination required, then play it back in such a way that your opponent has to do the same thing because the ball has come off two or more walls, changing both angle and pace at the same time.

From what I've seen, the pitcher tries to make sure the batter (or whatever he's called) can't hit it, and the batter tries to hit it. Probably a simplified version of what goes on, but each to their own I suppose.
Like how in football, each team tries to stop the other team scoring, while each team tries to score..

Unless it's the rags in a derby match:)

It's really not.

Well easier to hit in baseball than cricket (and yes I've played both)

A cricket bat has a larger and wider surface than a baseball bat. Reaction times I would say there's little difference but I can't agree that it's "well easier to hit in baseball than cricket", I doubt many would tbf.

“The hardest thing to do in all of sports is to hit a round ball with a round bat, squarely.”

I'd say you would be far more likely to be able to hit a pitch with a cricket bat than you are to even make contact with a delivery in cricket with a baseball bat.

A cricket bat is flat so it's easier to hit with it. In the Majors you have guys throwing mid to upper nineties with movement. That same guy can also throw in the low eighties with the same arm action in addition to having some sort of curveball or slider.

Also, in cricket the batsman is 10% further from the bowler than the hitter is from the pitcher. That gives the batsman more time.

I think they start the hurling coverage with Kilkenny vs Offaly on 5th of June. It won't be a great spectacle as it will be one sided, Offaly are always good for a bit of sledging though
