MLS / New York City thread

And as I said, there is no regard for their supporters. The CFG shouldn't have been given the franchise until the stadium issue had been resolved.

This should have been a time to capitalise on their success and grow, but playing in LA will exacerbate the already problematic issue.
Agree, wholeheartedly. The initial purpose of the MLS was to grow the game in the US. It has grown to fill soccer specific stadiums of 20-25,000 seats, it has grown from 6.5 million for an initial franchise to close to 120 million for the latest ones. My opinion is that it has grown the game here as far as it could, the emphasis now is to grow the bank accounts, my guess is that CFG operates NYCFC at a loss which probably mitigates their corporate tax burden. Supporters here in the States don't support ($) enough or as often to really have a legitimate stake in decisions like where or when a game is played.

There must be a college or university within the NY / NJ / southernr Connecticut catchment area that has a stadium capable of playing the game

There are several, Rutgers, Seton Hall, UConn, Fordham and probably 6 or 7 others, but as I have mentioned prior, NCAA regulations prohibit alcoholic beverages from being sold inside their stadiums. I'm reasonably certain that one of the beer conglomerates is a sponsor of the concacaf CL and would have a say in the matter. My best guess for a solution would be the Yale Bowl, as it is not subject to the alcohol prohibition, although it is owned by Yale U. it is not on their campus and has a large enough pitch and seating requirements to meet the needs of both concacaf and the tournament sponsors.
