My view on this deal is going to depend on the price...
If the 70M number is correct, I think it's a solid piece of business.
But at 100, no thanks.

Its not that Wirtz doesnt want to come that is a problem....to a point we cant control that (though whoever is in charge of making the club look attractive to potential signings needs to have a think!)
What we can control to a certain extent is who the alternatives are...
We were told a month or so ago that irrelevant of Wirtz coming or not that MGW was not the KDB replacement....
Now that narrative has changed and he is being seen as the KDB replacement and alternative to Wirtz
If we were getting in another creative central midfielder then all good....but if this is the extent of our rebuild of midfield then we are in trouble as we are going backwards in quality.
The drop off in quality from the likes of KDB and others to MGW is fucking astounding.
yes we may still have Bernardo and Gundo but is anyone putting their money on Gundo especially ever getting close to his old form....not for me -if it was up to me he would be out the door as well with our most sincere thanks and gratitude
bernardo I love but he has wanted out for 4 years...this may well have changed but he cant keep running like he does...he simply hasnt got it in him to keep doing this and he isnt creative either.
So if MGW is additional squad strength then fine....but there is a HUGE very obvious gapping fucking hole in quality in our central midfield area in the aspect of creativty....
So the hope seems to be that our wingers suddenly develop the ability to add numbers both in terms of goals and assists but I wouldnt hold my breath on that...Sav looks a long way off it and Doku has had a few seasons here now and although I like him a lot he is a step below the likes of Sane, Sterling and Mahrez
So the next theory is we are going to start adding creativity from fullback....Frimpong was supposd to be a target in that sense (he aint great defensively) but that is done as well...our targets - some unknown from Brazil and Livramento (who is decent but are newcastle really going to let him come to us?) - oh and the scousers have gone and got Kerkez as well probably - the other decent fullback who was available...
Failure to add real quality in the creative department sees us where we are now next season or worse
