moss side early 80s

every away fans nightmare tbh,

spoke to loads of lads over the years from different clubs and the alleyways at maine road allways come up in conversation!

seen so many lads split up and running for thier lives through and around that ground,

barnsley in the fa cup in the early 90's springs to mind, poor fuckers were blubbing climbing over walls into dead end roads the lot!

fantastic ground, feel proud to say i had a season ticket there for 8 years!

My Uncle Brian was the steward at Moss Side legion (not sure it was in the 80s though). And his nephew was Mark Lillis.

Ah but the Old Abbey was in Rusholme.

Thought it was in Hulme, somewhere off Cambridge Street ?

In the middle of a field bordered by Greenheys Lane on one side and Lloyd St on the other.

Sir, You are right and I stand corrected it was indeed in Hulme.

Feeling very nostalgic reading this. Night games, floodlights in the distance, Kippax in full song. AC Milan at home '78. Nuff said?

Yep it was a nightmare for away fans alright. `Hickey` who was the leader of the Chelsea headhunters crew, wrote in some book that it was the scariest place to go, especially if it dark when you came out. Says it all really as they really were a bunch of nutters.

the cool cats & the mayne line gave moss side its real state of mind mentality,
they knew the streets the allyways better than anyone
all firms where well sussed @ main road by the cats
they ran the moss big time
everybody knew them their dad so well known he signed autographs

Memories of walking thru Platt Fields Park onto Yew Tree Road and over Platt Lane, then the smell of chips and cig smoke. Jumpers for goalposts isn't it.
