moss side early 80s

Great thread. Having never lived in Moss side and with a southern accent I was always kind've nervous getting from Piccadilly to the ground. Felt much better when I got through the turnstiles. Travelling alone for most games didn't help though. Must've been a nightmare for away fans down those dark alleys.

as an away fan and a blue scouse at that, moss side was indeed a dodgy place to go. but was it any different to a walk to any ground , not really. only time i felt uneasy was at the colin bell testimonial as all of manchester seemed to be out that night ;-) seven sisters was a long walk and you just kept your wits about you, no easy grounds to get to in the 70s and 80s really. moss side was like walton without the blacks, and if everton/ liverpool played in toxteth am sure it would be the same scenario.

born in Sandbach Avenue just off princess rd....not strictly hulme or the moss but only 5 mins walk away.Good community when i was a kid (50 yrs ago!!)..bit old hack but people did look after each other, probably cos no one had f..k all!! Oh, and all the kids could play out at night(rally- vo etc) without the parents worrying they were going to be abducted.

Always thought the streets around maine rd were ok apart from the dog shit.

Moved to wythenshawe in the 60's. Lived on Wendover rd near the Pear tree pub( now the Wendover). Now that was rough!! but full of city.

the street name;is a good clue-looks like chriss and donald;think its don with the cricket ball;and chris or mickey outside right.

Worked in Moss Lane West for about 10 years round about that time. The new shopping centre was opening up,the leisure centre was fantastic.Loved the people.Unique.
