Don't be silly.
Just to put into perspective a little. It’s a game of football contested by two teams. The operative word there being contested. If it wasn’t possible for either team to be able to impact the result then it’s not a contest. And if it’s not a contest then what’s the point.
We all love over the years the giant killers in the FA cup. We all like to cheer for the underdog and a lot of times the underdog prevails. It’s part of the game and sometimes a team gets a surprise result.
Despite the fact we should’ve done this or done that, or VAr or should’ve made changes earlier whatever else. It was still a very close contest and some more focus from Raz would’ve brought us to 2-2. Our arse dropped again in Europe and it shouldn’t come as a surprise, we’ve seen it since long before Pep. Lyon weren’t surprised and seemed ready for us. They played well, had they got this result against Bayern or Barca then we’d be saying hats off to them, how well organised they are. How we knew they’re a good side having come away from our previous 2 meetings with 4 points.
They got the better of us, it’s annoying, but no way at all should it be considered a humiliation.
Brazil 1 Germany 7 was a humiliation,
Bayern 8 Barca 2 was a humiliation.
Boro 8 City 1 was a humiliation.
Rags 1 City 6 was a humiliation that I most enjoyed, and will probably rewatch that at some point over the next couple a weeks haha
We set up wrong from the start and failed to impose our game. We were shite. I take your point, and each of us will feel our own level of emotions. For me, there’s no humiliation in losing last night. Annoyance yes.If your only criteria for humiliation is the scoreline then no, it's not a humiliation. Losing 4-0 to Everton, 6-0 to Chelsea, 8-1 to Middlesbrough are bigger humiliations.
For me though, scoreline is not as important, it's more about the relative strength of the teams and the approach you play. Losing 3-1 against Lyon as big favourites and playing the negative way we did is far worse for me than going to Everton, dominating the game, creating more chances than them, and playing attacking, good-to-watch football but still losing 4-0 because of a series of individual errors.
That this isn't considered humiliating is a bit small club mentality for me. If Real, Barcelona, Bayern or any other big club set up with at least 8 men behind the ball against Lyon, it would be considered a humiliation let alone to then get beat 3-1.
Shrewsbury and Halifax Town in 79 and 80. Now they were embarrassing
To add to the humiliation Halifax fans were being sheltered by the roof of the Hyde Road main standWalking out of the Shay after losing to Halifax was the lowest point I experienced in my years following City. That day is still etched in my mind. I doubt I will ever forget it and to be honest I don't want to forget it because it was a lesson in humility.
They were bottom of the then 4th division and we were a decent side, i still recall the pitch, the stands, the embarrassment when walking out and being mocked.
My other most humiliating game was walking out of Edgeley Park after losing to Stockport fucking County and thinking to myself can things get any worse than this,I got back to my local before closing time and all the rag cunts were howling laughing at us.
Nothing else I have experienced in my time watching City compares to those two games.
