That's the little ol' City mentality I'm talking of. We're not a tin pot club anymore and haven't been since the 90s. Last night was humiliating due to the style of football we played and by the standards we're at now.

Losing to a shit team when you know you're shit is a lot less humiliating.

Just to put into perspective a little. It’s a game of football contested by two teams. The operative word there being contested. If it wasn’t possible for either team to be able to impact the result then it’s not a contest. And if it’s not a contest then what’s the point.

We all love over the years the giant killers in the FA cup. We all like to cheer for the underdog and a lot of times the underdog prevails. It’s part of the game and sometimes a team gets a surprise result.

Despite the fact we should’ve done this or done that, or VAr or should’ve made changes earlier whatever else. It was still a very close contest and some more focus from Raz would’ve brought us to 2-2. Our arse dropped again in Europe and it shouldn’t come as a surprise, we’ve seen it since long before Pep. Lyon weren’t surprised and seemed ready for us. They played well, had they got this result against Bayern or Barca then we’d be saying hats off to them, how well organised they are. How we knew they’re a good side having come away from our previous 2 meetings with 4 points.

They got the better of us, it’s annoying, but no way at all should it be considered a humiliation.


Brazil 1 Germany 7 was a humiliation,

Yesterday doesn't even come close to the Wigan game. This Lyon side is a very good team, their league position is deceiving. When they sacked their manager they were close to relegation zone but since then have been working their way up quite quickly. If the French league had carried on they would have made top 4. Add to this, their style is perfect for playing us.

But that Wigan game... Losing a cup final in that way was inexcusable.

Might be a stretch for some to think this is up there but I was at the Middlesbrough 8-1 game and I've seen us beaten by the likes of Wycombe at Maine Road and second division sides but for me, this result is right up there due to the talent we have in our squad. We're not little ol' City of the 90s anymore and we have a style and way of playing and an expectation to at least play with some pride against a team like Lyon and not set up like a Tony Pulis team against them. Couldn't believe what I saw last night so this result is right up there in terms of humiliating defeats. What's yours?

Was a bad day at the office that 8-1 game. But Saturday night is nothing like that or these games.
