Most Important City Goals

Yaya’s late late equaliser at Stoke when our title obituaries were already being written.

Sterling’s even later winner at Bournemouth to set us off on our record breaking run. The jury was still very much out on Pep and his City team at that time - the explosion of relief and happiness that moment brought coupled with the team bonding created by the deliriumof the celebration and Sergio helping a blue out in the aftermath lit the rocket boosters under a talented squad and we didn’t look back.

A couple that I'd stick in the top 20 that haven't been mentioned yet.

Gabby's last minute winner to clinch the 100 point total.

Sane's against Liverpool that set us on our run pipping then to the title.

Emile Mpenza's winners up at Middlesbrough and Newcastle in March 2007.

6 games without a win, 5 defeats on the trot, no goals at home since New Year's Day, drifting towards relegation.

Then suddenly, Mpenza, signed only on a trial basis, grabs two massive goals that secure the 6 points to keep us up.

No Mpenza, no survival, no Sven in the summer, no takeover in 2008.

Can't find a clip on YouTube, and it's not a goal either, but David James saving Paul Dickov's penalty at Leicester in 2004. Just as decisive as any goal we scored in that relegation battle to stay up. A Leicester win in that game would have allowed them and Leeds to catch us up, but the point meant that Leeds couldn't catch us anymore and that any win for us would see us stay up. Was a huge, huge save.

Any room for Paul Simpsons late lob at Portsmouth in 1985 ?? A 2-1 win at our promotion rivals during an injury crisis I have seen at City neither before nor since.

Our promotion charge had gone tits up thanks to those injuries (just imagined Klopps whining if he our gaffer that year...oh my good hed have been a teenager double the mithering!) and suspensions.

Our season was in tatters and Portsmouth had equalised minutes before and they would probably have gone passed us into third place as our form evaporated.

Without that goal there would never have been the 200000 crowd at home to Charlton. In the long game, didnt make too much difference as we only survived two seasons "in the big time" but at the time it was a crucial goal.

MCFC limbs unrivalled in the 80’s
