Most Memorable Boxing Day City Match

Told you old man's memory, was Oldham away his first goal ?
Think it was a volley or an effort from outside the box and again i think we won 3-0.
Was there but had been on the sauce all afternoon, so could be wrong

Was gonna mention this. I was 11 and we got tonked by them yearly.

i always recall it as a clive the jive diving header but ive never seen footage since , searched and searched, to confirm this
It was a header from six yards. After their keeper had saved a one on one( with Gordon Davies I think) the ball bobbled up in the air and Euclid did the rest. No footage because camera men were on strike

Yeah throught it was the time of no cameras.
Was it at the platt lane end. Foggy memory of being in the main stand with dad about level with the pen spot, nearly in line with it.

we always used to go my nannas on boxing day and remember being totally buzzung about the result

What sticks in the memory for me about the 1985 Liverpool game is the deafening whistling for full time going on for the last 30 minutes or so and I can remember Grobelaar stood there with his fingers in his ears -the goal was just about the only time we got in their half as they absolutely battered us

A little of topic but can remember a fantastic Liverpool game which I think was our first home game of the season. Went into a two nil lead with David White getting a dubious second early in the second half. We dominated for the first hour, but in the last half hour we were battered as Liverpool threw the kitchen sink at us. They pulled a goal back and Dean Saunders missed a penalty. At the final whistle the ground went mad, one of the great Maine Rd nights. Can't remember what year it was think Peter Reid was manager, in those days any defeat of the dippers was rare and to be treasured.

The obvious ones for us older fans have already been mentioned. I'll go for one that wasn't memorable for the football, just for the sheer ballache of leaving home at 5-30am to drive from the Fylde Coast to Southampton for a noon KO and watch us take the lead and then lose 2-1.

Some rich twats went by plane IIRC. ;-)

The plane that couldn’t land. All got off with green faces. My brother hasn’t flown since that day lol.

Losing 3-2 at home to Oldham.

Frankie Bunn scored a goal off our keeper's arse IIRC?

Still are mate..;)

1985. Beat Liverpool 1-0 at Maine Road against all the odds, thanks to Clive Wilson. My first ever City game.
From memory we only had two shots all game, the one that was saved and Clive then followed up and scored. That game panned out a little like teams play against us these days
