It's not a straw man at all. It's a completely connected point. You are suggesting that all fans feel persecuted and that is manifestly correct. Any visit to another club's forum will attest to that. We all see things, to some extent, through the prism of our own support. However, just because they all feel persecuted it doesn't mean that media coverage is even handed.

What I am saying, from a City point of view, is that it is demonstrably clear, a matter of fact, that the "Big 4" (especially Liverpool) are much better represented in the media than City. That, in itself, is evidence that those clubs will receive more benign coverage than others, and undermine any suggestion that all fans' paranoia is equally well founded. It is not - some have more genuine cause to believe their club is covered negatively than others irrespective of the wider tendency for all fans to feel the world is against them.

City fans fall into that category imo.

Excellent points, GDM.

Like you I don't believe there is a grand agenda against us - or any other club for that matter.

However I challenge anyone to say we get as good a ride as Liverpool (specifically on MOTD) or (on a pretty universal basis) our media darling neighbours.

Would you disagree, DD?

I have never noticed Liverpool getting favourable analysis on match of the day, no. Now, and this links into my point, I don't habitually watch Liverpool so, having seen 5 or 10 minutes highlights, I'm not in a position to comment on whether the analysis given was good or bad. And, I suggest, neither are you lot.

It's nice and easy to go binary on this and go 'well they played for Liverpool so they must be giving a pro Liverpool bias' but I suggest that if they routinely were (and to repeat; i don't know of its the case or not) then they would be given the hard word from above, or sacked.

They are a bunch of pundits giving half baked analysis on games they have only seen the highlights of.

Did you watch last night fella cos to me it looked like Hansen creamed over liverpool?? ;)

Just got back from the Fulham trip and talk at breakfast this morning from 7 of us was about Hansen.

As has already been pointed out, it is not what he said being wrong, we know we have some defensive issues, and he is qualified to have an opinion but it is that once again he focuses on our defence after an away win, when all they talked of in the other games were the positive qualities of the winning teams. is it because we play Liverpool Football Club next?

The editorial team for MOTD choose what they show, analyse and talk about. Once again they choose to talk of our negatives. Anyone else recall that it was at Fulham not too many years ago where Hansen absolutely laid into Vinnie.

I have to say that at times i was also not too impressed with the way we played, both fullbacks were not all that good, made to many mistakes and we didn't control the game like we can do, or against teams near the foot of the table like we should do, at times we played way below our best, and when that happens then other people see it and make comments, it may look like they are just being negative, but it's that poor play that stands out more than the good play.

You slagged us off after we had just won away to the European Champions.....

You are an accomplished poster, DD, so I'm going to press you harder.

Basically you say Hansen can't be biased or he would have been jumped on. Applying this logic in any walk of life seems weak if I might say so. No problem with NHS managers/ bankers /MPs/ social workers/anyone else or they would have been turfed out? If only.

And you didn't even comment on the slack given to Utd.

Utter crap. Clearly Hansen has an issue with us,

I don't think i slagged us off, i may have said we were lucky, in that at two goals down against the so called best team in Europe, and just when we were there for the taking, i asked did we suddenly turn it around or did they take their foot off the gas, i don't think that is slagging us off, and there is nothing wrong with saying against a team low in the league and one we should beat with something in reserve, we made hard work of it, and for that matter i was not all that impressed with the fullbacks, and in my opinion i have a right to say so.

Beating Bayern was great but after the first 20 minutes they had us well and truly in their hands, i could see that but obviously you couldn't, but that was not slagging them off, having a go at them for the way they beat Arsenal would have been slagging them off.
