Mourinho or Mancini

Dropping Casillas was Mourinho's resignation letter. His replacement Adan managed to get himself sent off in the first match back after the winter break so Casillas has had to come back in. Irony.

Yeah, lol, what a cruel moment for Adan. YOu wait your chance for years beingthe sub for world's best keeper and finally, when you get the chance to show the World what you are worth for few months cause other one failed with manager you get sent off in 5th minute of your 2nd match.

What a script, lol

And that for me is the crux of it. I actually think Mourinho is in many ways as unsuited to the current City set up as Mancini is. They are both highly political figures who will happily go to war with their own clubs to get what they want. City needs someone who will be the "face" man of the ADUG regime. Someone who will show a willingness to put politics aside and solely defend their club in the way that Wenger or even Slur Alex do. They are both company men, and we need a company man fronting City. What makes Mourinho more attractive than Mancini is simply that he's much better, both as a manager and coach. It's funny when people refer to the publicity that Mario brings and how that's good for City. Signing Mourinho would be the biggest signing publicity wise at our club since the takeover.<br /><br />-- Mon Jan 07, 2013 4:37 pm --<br /><br />

but he instructs his players to get carded and pokes opposing managers in the eye..those are not appealing attributes

He is a winner who almost always gets the best out of his players and has a track record of unparalleled succes in the last decade both domestically and in Europe. These are the most important attributes.

True. Mourinho loves himself first. Let's be straight - it's something all successful people do. Mario does it too but he still has to show what he's worth to that characteristic be something I could handle. If he scores 25 goals per season he can kiss his photo and make love with it on the pitch anytime he scores as far as I am concerned.

And true about publicity. If any publicity is good publicity, let's not kid ourselves, Mario is anonymous compared to Mourinho. Mario hits the news usually only when he makes some stupid thing, Mourinho does it as soon as he open his eyes.

I think City needs success at this moment more than anything else. With FFP around the corner and big competition anywhere you need success and the fast one at this stage of club development. That's what brings money and raise the club profile. Being all fake smiles and love while being successful is good thing and Barcelona mastered that recently. But being all smiles and love without success won't get you anywhere far.

That's why I couldn't give a flying one what people think about some moral characteristic of Mourinho. I'm not marrying him to care about it.

Genuine question: What would Bobby actually have to do to convince you he is the right guy for job?

He's convinced me with an FA Cup a league title and a fantastic win percentage. Haven't lost by more than a goal in nearly two years either.

I'd go with a line DD used here many times. I don't think he ever managed to make City squad to be more that sum of it's parts, that's the first thing for me when rating managers.

I don't like some of things he is saying in public too. I could probably handle them if the first part was right but since I don't think it is, it's something that converted me to not have a faith in him anymore.

Interesting point in there billy. As you know, I think mourinho and city would be a match made in heaven. I was encouraged by mancini's words that "the sheikh loves mario because everyone talks about him" or whatever, because whatever publicity mario brings , mourinho would bring in tenfold.

Brilliant post. City's long term future will take care of itself because we are rich. The club is investing heavily on a production line of young players. It's all about "now" for city, to become recognised by players, public and sponsors as one of the world's biggest clubs. That's what mourinho brings instantly. If we had progressed this season you could argue that that was happening, but as it is we are fighting to stand still.

First time he'd been dropped in 10 years or so I heard?

I think all managerial quirks are forgiven if you're winning (well, unless your managing Madrid). For me personally the PL was a no brainer. The squad we started last season with was ridiculously good and streets ahead of United's and Chelsea's. Europe was always going to be a challenge, and Mancini's challenge was to find a way to balance his squad to get the best out of them in both competitions. He failed last season but we were flying in the league so it sort of mitigated that at the time, but I think the unspoken feeling for some was "next season will have to be an improvement". We actually went backwards as I don't think we played nearly as well this season as we did against Bayern and Napoli last season.

Respect to those who feel Mancini will improve in the years to come and could one day be a managerial great up there alongside the likes of Mourinho. Personally I don't think City, in the phase we're at in our development, should be a testing groung for anyone. As you say MSP, we need results both domestically and in Europe now both for financial and profile reasons. Being Europe's richest club on paper but having zero CL pedigree will get us laughed at when we try to sign the best players.
