Mancini had more to do than just buy players to sort this club out - he had a deep rooted mentality to get rid of - the one that has dragged this club down for far too long.
I don't think Mourinho could have hacked it had he been appointed when Mancini was. He's too mard and stroppy - Mancini is hard and it's his way or the highway. You don't fuck with Mancini or you're out - as a few players well know.
Mess Mourinho about and he has a tantrum and threatens to leave.
Don't like using ferguson as an example but in this case it's appropriate. Even his best players, Beckham and Stam for example, weren't excluded from the I am the boss and you will do as I say or else. Like him or not, you can't deny that he has done pretty well with that approach.
It does amaze me reading posts like this about Mou/Mancini. They are equally arrogant, equally stroppy, and equally driven. Neither man as a manager will suffer fools and neither will be messed around. You say that Mou would have a tantrum and threaten to leave if he felt he was being messed about. You do know that Mancini had a tantrum and threatened to leave for Juventus towards the end of last season.
It's interesting just how badly Mou's reputation has been damaged by his stint at Real Madrid. I'd hazard a guess that that is one of the reasons why he may just jack the job in even after winning the league this season. The Barca/Madrid hegemony in Spain isn't going to be broken any time soon which has created a magnified importance upon a rivalry which is already as fierce as any other. Whether he wins the war or not, by not winning the el classico battles on the pitch and by fuelling controversy off it he's allowed the pressure to get to him, possibly for the first time in his coaching career.
I can understand why he wants to come back to England. The media love him - his coaching methods and tactics won't be scrutinised half as much as the have been on the continent - and lets face it, he'll be managing in the most difficult and competitive league in the world.
I have never spoken to anybody outside of this forum who claims that this is true. Even at the time I asked around and everybody said that it was complete bollocks. This forum seems to be the only place where this is taken as a fact.
I know where the information came from, originally, and more to the point I know why it came out. Let's just say that lots of political manoeuvring was happening at this time and it made lots of sense for certain people to drop this into the press pack. Even then, most of them didn't bite because they saw through it. I raised my objections to the original poster of this in a PM (using more direct language) when it came out and we pretty much agreed that this was brinkmanship rather than actual reality.
