Moving Away Fans / SSL3 /2 All City Fans.

Nobody is ‘tucked away’ on Level 1. Everyone is within the main bowl of the stadium there. Putting them there gives them one giant voice and pride of place for TV.

The away fans of most clubs at Arsenal are normally quiet. It's like Spurs. Of course there will always be occasions when a late goal is scored when the whole away end goes mental and joins in the singing. Rodri & Grealish as an example. Limbs everywhere. United at the Etihad a few weeks ago is a prime example of that.

What about thinning it out a bit to let more of us in whilst adding a few more of them on 1 & 2 of East Stand, as shown. The new additions can still exit vía South Stand.

Away fans on SSL3.

Give singing City fans those 1000+ safe standing seats and we would make some noise up there. And join in with the new NSL2 tier across the pitch in full view.

Half the time clubs don’t even take up the third tier away allocation. Loads just have Level 1 and Level 2 of the away stand.

So we’d be moving 110-111 out of their seats for no real reason and we’d lose that either side of the away fans intimidation on Level 1.

Correct. Crazy idea all round, massive disruption to existing SC holders, reduced revenue for City, better location, coordination and noise for the away fans, no exit for ESL1 at the south end of the stadium, the list of negatives goes on and on. Fortunately I doubt anyone at the club would entertain this.

Not for me. Away fans are in a good spot as they are now.

In a thin slither and split up into three distinct sections where none of them are ever singing the same song at the same time as each other.

They look and sound insignificant to the wider stadium as they are.

There hasn’t been a decent set of away fans, singing as one, for a normal allocation game (ie, not the domestic Cups when they get more tickets) going back years, and it’s due to the way they’re situated.

And you can’t really see them too much when we’re on the tele as most are away from the TV cameras. You can only ever see that tiny little section of them on Level 1. Putting them all in a spot they’d be seen for the TV isn’t a good idea.

Plus even worse than the aesthetic reason; why on Earth would we group them all together in one mass creating one big voice for them to create a better atmosphere?

Also, as they are now, we’ve got two good groups either side of the away fans on Level 1 who ‘give it’ to the away fans and are good at intimidating them (there have been comments from fanbases about this). Lose 110-111 from this and block 106 will be nowhere near as vociferous towards them.

We need to concentrate on making NSL2 our big atmosphere stand. We need as many of those fans like in the Leicester away end the other day to move to NSL2. Commandeer the stand and make it our atmosphere stand. This is possibly our last ever opportunity to create a proper home stand for atmosphere at the Etihad. We seriously cannot just let it fritter away… Operation NSL2!
Yep pretty sure this was all discussed in depth before the third tier was built and most if not all saw it as good news when the club implemented it (splitting the fans over three tiers)

Exactly. So why waste a whole L3 away tier, over 1000 seats, on those clubs?

As I’ve said previously, City have to fill L1 first due to PL pitch side rules. After that L2.(which would make sense) If there are a few hundred more away tickets sold then part of L3. It would be much easier to give those away clubs individual and additional blocks on L1 and L2, instead of all of L3, which they can’t fully fill. There have been plenty of occasions when the club has sold the L3 away seats to City fans and filled it, when away clubs haven’t taken their full away allocation, as you have rightly pointed out.

I don't think we should get polarised about this idea even though there are two different camps clearly forming. At the end of the day it’s just a discussion atm and nothing more. The idea has negative and positives attributes. If it was only negative attributes I wouldn’t support it, and the idea of moving away fans from L3 to L1.

Not you. :-)

Who’s to say City haven’t at least looked at the idea and discussed it? Maybe they haven’t? We don’t know. You can never 2nd guess what City are thinking and coming up with next. That’s why the club is so bloody frustrating, but in the same breath, so bloody great, and way ahead of other PL clubs, the North stand expansion being 1 huge example of that.

As 1000’s of City fans will be relocating from all over the ground when the relocation window opens for NSL2, with 8000 extra seats to fill, that gives City an opportunity to look at and to evaluate every seating option, block, and tier inside the Etihad. That doesn’t mean City will make wholesale seating changes inside the Etihad during that period and afterwards.

I for one think relocating the away fans from L3 to L1 is worth looking at by the club. I’m not saying the club will do that. I think the idea is doable. It does have its benefits as we’ve discussed on this thread and on the atmosphere thread.

As for the upheaval of moving City fans. Can we all be honest here, please. When has that ever stopped City before when they have come up with ideas to change the seating configuration of the Etihad for various reasons. Yes, fans have and will always complain, but they will get a different seat, and continue watching City in another part of the ground.

I myself have moved 3 times. From Maine Road, from 215, from 110. I’m now in 115. I might move to NSL2 yet.(might) I would certainly consider moving to SSL3 if that was made a genuine and proper safe standing singing section.(I don’t mean like SSL1, which is not a genuine singing section, in all but name)

These are the figures I had 5 years ago ...
113: 568
114: 690 (full block, not just the away allocation) - 440?
213: 403
214: 414 (ditto) - 264?
313: 809
314: 809 (ditto) - 516?

So looks like just under 2/3rds each of 114/214/314 are allocated roughly 440/264/516 respectively.
There are about 1000 in each block on the third tier, obviously they vary, so they get roughly 1,500 as they get 1.5 upper tier blocks.

Using very round numbers 900 lower (600 * 1.5), 600 2nd (400 * 1.5).

When City get ticket requests the club generally take the lower 2, and it is sale or return providing they sell half in the block, but when it comes to the 3rd tier they were offered the full block first and had to sell at least half or pay 15,000+ plus if they take they 1,000 block and don't sell at least half.

City then sold the third tier at normal prices so it worked out profitable for the club to do the pressure tactic. Now City have agreed to only sell them at £30 to home fans so there is less pressure on the away club and they seem to be given more time to sell their allocation. The unintended consequence of City Matters pushing for £30 on the 3rd tier away section for home fans means it is far less likely to be sold to home fans.
