Thieves are considered the lowest of the low and the anxiety to those wrongly accused must be off the scale.
I posted about this on here years ago.
I’ve never worked in the civil service, so I will gladly bow to your greater knowledge here mate, although I presume that the Post Office issues would probably have been largely covered up as well had people not been sent down for crimes they didn’t commit.trust me bud if you have ever worked in the civil service you would know that this in no way exceptional, what is exceptional about this is that it has been flagged up, rather than quietly brushed under the rug.
If they could have covered it up they 100% would have, it was the cover up of them trying to send people down for crimes they didnt commit which ultimately brought the whole thing to light and trust me what they are using now isnt exactly cutting edge, its effectively an excel spreadsheet tarted up into a web based system at huge cost.I’ve never worked in the civil service, so I will gladly bow to your greater knowledge here mate, although I presume that the Post Office issues would probably have been largely covered up as well had people not been sent down for crimes they didn’t commit.
Slightly off topic, but I’m still amazed by that story of Public Health England using an old excel spreadsheet to record infections at the early stages of the pandemic. Given the ease with which data scientists can be hired on a 6 or 12 month contract, so that a proper system could be put in, the decision to use excel paints a broader picture of how fucked up things must have been at the time in that department. Pretty staggering really.
It’s taken a TV programme, emphasising the pain and anguish these poor people have suffered, because the majority of the great British public can’t imagine situations unless they are on a screen in their living rooms. This has been going on years, an utter disgrace. Why has it taken a TV programme for the public to know about it?
Private Eye has been banging on about this for years, but there hasn't been a squeak about it in the mainstream media until now.
20 odd years of untold misery for those wrongly affected, and the story has been there all along. I'm kind of pleased its come out of the woodwork, at last, but also pissed off it's been swept under the carpet and ignored as a major injustice for so many years.
Hope she gets sent an invoice for 60 grand then thrown in prison when she can't pay it.Paula Vennells handing back her CBE, hope she doesn't post it back.
