I think a problem with the PR was that the post office is seen as being a bit of a 'boring' subject so it didn't capture the imagination of the public in the same way as say an NHS or banking scandal would.
I am not one for techno-phobic conspiracy theories and am usually an early adopter of new tech but I'm actually with you on smart meters. It's really sad isn't it.
I'm waiting for the next scandal to hit.
My money's on Smart Metering from the power companies.
Another techno-wonder that just doesn't feel 100% accurate e.g. stories of consumers being hit with revised bills multiple times greater than previous.
Here's a prime example...
TotalEnergies sorry for overcharging Cornwall businessman
Energy firm apologises after a Cornish businessman was overcharged via direct debit.www.bbc.co.uk
An energy company has issued an "unreserved apology" to a businessman who was mistakenly hit with a £244,000 bill for a month's energy.
Patrick Langmaid, the owner of Martha's Orchard holiday park at Constantine Bay, said had experienced a "nightmare" since the money was taken out of his bank account via direct debit on 28 December.
Mr Langmaid said his normal monthly bills were between £2,100 and £2,700.
And here's a copy of his bill....

I'm sure she can afford 60 grand. She was probably paid a share of post office profits for years. Profits that were boosted by the "missing" money that the post masters had to pay out of their own pockets. The missing money was added onto the post office profits, but difficult to prove.Hope she gets sent an invoice for 60 grand then thrown in prison when she can't pay it.
She is handing back her CBE.
In the grand scheme of things so fucking what. It only means anything if you believe in the honours system.
It's more important that people are brought to trail and sentence that would be better than handing back a gong
Franz Kafka couldn't have dreamed up this shit.I'm sure she can afford 60 grand. She was probably paid a share of post office profits for years. Brilliant business model. Any losses are paid for by the workers. What could possibly go wrong.
Almost as good as the Bet365 model, whose boss Denise Coates "earned" £221 million last financial year to March 2023. That takes her salary to £1 billion over the last 4 years.
No, but you are saying it did exactly as portrayed by a drama on tv.Are you saying it never happened?
