Vauxhall Viva.

Cant go wrong.

brown, orange or beige is the only decision to make
My first car was an HA Viva, 0 to 60 in 1/2 an hour.

mine was a nissan sunny fastback, it wasn't fast, they lied to me, never liked the japanese since, always buy british goods now, they are all shit mind, but principles are important in this life, am waffling a bit

always drive a car before you buy it or at least read a review would seem to be the moral of the story

My first " car" was an 2nd hand Morris Thousand van from Vanland in Ancoats.
(we are talking late 1960's here - it had a starting handle! ( google it youngsters)

I didn't have any old fashioned stuff like that - I had a modern (?!?) Austin 1100.

Austin Maxi 1500. Cost £50 from a bloke who worked with my step-dad at Granada TV.

Every time I went over a bump, the back seat collapsed into the boot. Great laugh.

Vauxhall Nova - loved it as it gave me so much freedom until someone went into the back of me at the light and wrote it off.

O/P - My other half has gor a Seat Ibiza and it's a cracking little car. If you want something a bit bigger try the Leon. I'd suggest a small sized engine to keep your insurance premiums down for the next few years.

Check out the owners forums before buying; see what the real issues are.

My first was a ten year old Hillman Hunter 1725, bought in 1977.
