My first car

it was a beast :)
Got me from A to B and was cheap as chips to run, never breaking down. Think it cost me about £500.
The only downside is that it wasn't a "fanny magnet" but I never bought it for that anyway.

My Advice is to keep the 6k and use this for travelling/other experiences you'll enjoy in your youth... you've got 40yrs of life remaining to be a boring fart driving all day ;)

You might see young lads buying the latest boy racers, tied with debt around their necks which they'll regret when they're in their mid 20's and still haven't paid off the car.

if you do buy a decentish car however then don't buy brand new. Let some other fool take the devaluation.

Seat Ibiza (or Leon if you want quicker)
Volkswagen Polo (or Golf if you want quicker)

preferably Low mileage, and take someone mechanically minded along with you to test drive it.

Why not try something like a VW Golf 1.6tdi SE bluemotion £5,500-£6,000 probably on an 09 plate.

Average fuel consumption 62 mpg,
0-62 11.3 secs, top speed 116mph,
£30 tax per year.

My first car was a VW Scirocco GLS Mk1 in red. Loved it, ran it on 2 star petrol!

I had one of these in this colour, Y reg. Front seats were like armchairs. It got nicked more times than Pete Docherty, in the end I dint even need keys. The doorlock was hanging out and it could be started with a little wooden fork from the chippy

Chrysler Crossfire. 2 seat sports coupe or drophead. Unusual but cool styling. Built by Karman of Germany. Merc 3.2 engine SLK320 chassis. Very nice to drive and well within your budget. Err, insurance might be a problem price wise.

Austin Maxi 1500. Cost £50 from a bloke who worked with my step-dad at Granada TV.

Every time I went over a bump, the back seat collapsed into the boot. Great laugh.

I bet that was fun having a bird in the back seat

That's why my mates were always trying to borrow my car for the evening!

Was given to me when it was the same age as me 18 - sold it for £15
Never bought a German car ever - this one was free.
Not sure you could get one for £6K now though
