Naomi Osaka refusing to speak to the media - Is she right or wrong?

Yes paid by the tax payers so that gives the tax payer the right to shout abuse at us threatened to punch our lights out, throw cans at us ? We are the minions not the councillors who make the rules, we are just doing a job ! So when in ramsgate Bigga feel free to come over and abuse and punch us etc ;)

The same as you have a right to abuse and attack nurses, doctors, teachers, ambulance, etc etc anyone who is paid by the state is free game ?

Wasn't the point I was making, but it was an avenue I made.

Some journalists are just awful, they are confrontational and athletes (Politicians and slebs in general) must find it hard to be in the same room with them knowing that they are just going to get negative press because the journalists in question are nothing short of being hacks.
Yeah, I think one of the problems is the sense of entitlement that comes with the players actually being obliged to give an interview to them. They know they can, within reason perhaps, be an absolute prick and as long as they've got their credentials they'll be asking a question again in the next round.

Also it's different with football. Someone mentioned Ferguson, but what he did was always sent the assistant manager to do the BBC interview. The club has to send someone, but there's no obligation to send a particular person. And that's the difference between a team sport and an individual one. Karius isn't doing any interviews after the CL final, they'll just send out another player instead. Plenty of players go through their entire career never being interviewed.

And let's be honest, the vast majority of interviews are of absolutely no interest. Just the same questions and the same boring, cliched answers from media-trained sports people. The only time anything interesting happens is when it's nothing to do with sport, like the Craig Bellamy interview about John Terry.

Yes, I get that, but a player playing under private earnings/ private competition has even less need to answer questions from journalists who have no direct contribution to that player's rise to the top through hard work and sacrifice.

Fuck most journalists.

There shouldn't be any need mate, unless they are there to deal with an issue that directly concerns you and engagement is within their remit, otherwise it is shithouse behaviour.

It’s not private competition if some of the media outfits have bought coverage packages that include first interview rights.

She doesn't "enter" as such, she plays qualifying games or is 'invited'.

If they don't like it, don't invite her.

She has qualified by her world ranking which gives her the right to enter grand slam tournaments where you are given the chance to earn lots of cash and more ranking points, as part of the tournament rules she has to fulfil her media duties, don’t like the rules, don’t enter or continue to rack up 16k fines per round for lack of media duties.

Angry man on internet when the media says something they don't want to hear
"Hate the media with their biased agenda" "Why do they ask these stupid questions?"

also angry man on the internet when a strong willed woman refuses to speak to the media
"Worlds gone mad, if she doesn't want to talk to them perhaps she shouldn't enter the tournament"
