Said it at 1-1 (with 10 minutes left) against Villareal, but our management DON'T believe we can win this trophy.
There is such small margins between success and failure at this level, but while we've laughed on conceding soft goals to QPR, Wolves and Newcastle, cos we've won, it's bitten us on the arse tonight against top quality opposition.

I thought we were poor defensively with Kolarov particularly having an off day. Every time they broke they looked like scoring and we were lucky to only concede 2. In midfield, I thought Yaya was off the pace and we created very few clear chances in spite of having a lot of possession. Dzeko was anonymous, I can't remember one thing he did.

My ratings:
Hart 7
Zabaletta 5
Lescott 6
Kompany 5
Kolorov 2
De Jong 6
Milner 7
Silva 6
Yaya 5
Balotelli 6
Dzeko 2

Aguero 6
Johnson 4
Nasri 7

Let's have it right napoli are in the champ league for the first time in how long? So surely a learning curve for them as well, looks like they learnt quicker than us, spuds last year made quarters first time in comp, so new boys finding our feet is feeble excuse

I'll still go to Europa League games but I can't believe I read a post earlier with someone saying he was sending back his Bayern ticket because we're out (almost) now... awful. Even if it was a friendly match City vs. Bayern is a game to see.

Half empty stadium for this now. I shelled out £55 for me and the lad under cup scheme but loads will have waited for this game before deciding.

What's not appealing about a game against Bayern Munich where we need a win and a win only and rely on other results.

This is what football is all about, if we dont sell out it is a disgrace. This is what we wanted to be in the champions league for ffs.

They completely outplayed us 1st half...what game were you watching? Should never have been in with a shout at half time.
Didn't see anyone completely outplay us. Cavani was on fire infront of a home crowd. They were tough opponents.

We certainly were not at our best and probably didn't deserve to win but I never saw the heads drop or any lack of effort or anyone outplaying us.
We will play worse and win matches. Dissapointed to go out as it looks like we will but in a group of that quality it is not a big suprise.

Bad day at the office for all - including Mancini, I think. As much as he has been justly praised for how we've been playing this season, he can also be justly criticised for two really bad decisions which have cost us in the CL - Kolo in Munich, Zab/Kolarov tonight. Not only do Richards and Clichy offer so much more going forward, but their pace makes them much better-equipped to deal with the quick counter-attacks of Napoli.

I'd also agree that he was too slow in making the changes. I can half understand not wanting to risk Aguero if he's carrying a knock, but he might just as easily pick up an injury in 10 minutes as in 20. And the difference he made was huge, just with his movement. Dzeko is great against lesser sides when we dominate and create plenty of chances, but we need Aguero against tougher defences - he's the one, other than Silva, who has got that little bit extra to create things. And I thought we could also have made an attacking change for Zabaleta earlier - either AJ or (what I would have done) Barry, and then played Milner at right-back (which in the last 15 mins meant right-winger).

The other concern is the lack of tempo with which we've played in the CL. Whether this is due to instruction, or whether it stems from the players, I don't know - but there has just been no urgency whatsoever in any of the games so far, even Villareal away. And we are so much better when we play at a quicker tempo - when we press high and move the ball quickly. And the players must take partial blame for that - it seems to me that whereas in the League everyone is working to make things happen, in the CL the players are afraid of taking that responsibility, and it's still more a case of give it to Silva and hope that something will happen.

Oh well, perhaps Villareal will surprise us all and get something. All we have to do is go out and beat Munich - which I actually fancy us to do, if we play in our usual fashion and don't get caught up with the idea of having to do things differently in the CL. And if we don't go through, so be it - was always going to be a learning curve - let's 'just' make sure we go on and win the league....
